Just went out and tried the HP measurement on the G-tech. I'm going to the dyno shop on Wednesday, so I thought I'd get a G-tech number for comparison purposes.
Entered 3,551lb for vehicle weight (3,731lb - 180lb as no passenger) and only did 1-run. G-tech measured 227bhp at the wheels. :mad
Ambient temperature was 73f with 61% humidity, coolant was 195f and there was a light-to-moderate breeze.
Even a totally stock A4 should put out between 280 and 290 at the wheels!
Has anyone else measured their HP with the G-tech? I hope this low reading is normal!
I have a Gtimer made by Passport and the readings aren't much better. I dynoed my 03 stock coupe and had 301 rwhp and the gtimer read 229 hp at 50-70 mph. I don't know how the G-tech works but the Gtimer HP gets more accurate using higher speed settings. Taking HP reading at 80-100 mph it read around 260hp.
I have made several passes with my Gtec and my hp has gone from 250-300. I concluded that the Gtec does not do a good job calculating HP. It is very dependent on the weight you enter. You have to take into account amount of fuel, passengers, etc. By adding or subtracting 10 lbs the hp reading can change significantly. The Gtec does seem to do better with times and that is what I have been using for comparison. However then you need consistent take-off's. My best 1/4 is 13.49@114 with the Gtec, that was on the street with runcraps.
