Default Battery cables

Hi all,
I want to change out BOTH battery cables, as they are corroded from the years gone by. Is this difficult to do and what should I be aware of? What all do they connect to? Where can I get them for a good deal? Thanks for any help or tips.

Many folks just "have-at-it" on any repair. I would recommend getting a GM Service Manual for your year car if you plan on doing more than change the oil/air filter/etc. Manuals are inexpensive and help you do the job correctly.

That is the scarry thing for me about used cars. Were they serviced properly, or just "good enough". Is the consequence of the "good enough" service the reason the car is being sold.

Negative Cable
- Record presets on radio
- Record radio Theftlock code
- Turn off all lamps and accessories
- Make sure Ignition is off
- Disconnect Negative Battery cable from battery
- Disconnect Positive Battery cable
- Remove Battery hold down retainer bolt and retainer
- Remove Battery
- Remove Battery Tray
- Remove heat shield retainer at the upper plenum
- Remove the heat shield at the wheel house panel
- Remove the battery shield
- Remove the right spark plug wire
- Remove the battery cable clips
- Remove the negative battery cable ground nut (G104)
- Remove the negative battery ground lead
- Remove the battery cable from the engine wiring harness insulator
- Raise and support the vehicle
- Remove the negative battery bolt and terminal
- Lower the vehicle
- Remove the negative battery cable

Positive Cable
- Open the stud cover on the fuse/relay center
- Remove the positive battery cable nut from the fuse/relay stud
- Remove the positive battery cable lead from the fuse/relay canter stud
- Remove the battery cable clips
- Remove the battery cable from the engine harness insulator
- Raise and support the vehicle
- Remove the positive battery cable terminal nut and terminals from the starter solenoid
- Lower the vehicle
- Remove the positive battery cable

Installation is pretty much the reverse of the above,
- Positive Battery cable nut to starter solenoid 8N-m
- Positive Battery cable nut to the fuse/relay block is 10 N-m
- Negative battery cable terminal bolt is 8 N-m
- Negative battery ground nut is 8 N-m
- Battery tray bolts 12 N-m
- Battery Retainer hold down bolt 18 N-m
- Positive Battery cable bolt 15 N-m
- Battery Negative terminal bolt is 16 N-m

Hi all,
Thank you, Mapman, for the precise description of how to do this. That is what I was looking for. I will also invest in some service manuals!
