Fixed broken valve spring last night
It makes me feel really comfortable when you buy from a place like LGM, you have a problem and they are there behind you 110%.
We now use a +.030 retainer, which, according to REV will give us plenty of margin before coil bind.
We only used what REV recommended and until this month, we have had almost no issues.
Thanks
Lou G

If we were using diff. retainers, should we replace them now or ""if it isn't broke, don't fix it"?

I spoke to REV (Carlos) and he said the typical set-up for the 1116 rev springs (just chose this model as an example) with the retainers Thunder racing sells is dangerous for lift over.565-.570. Yes the springs will handle .600 with +.070 retainers or +.050 locks. There isn't a given correct setup. These things are varied from one application to another. Even if the valve is longer the heights are different. Are you using stock valves?
I don't trust anyone else's perfection. Lou is among the best of them. If you are saying that because something is sold as correct and vendors never make a mistake......
This was not a shot at LG, nor was it a shot at JMX. I am simply defending a product that is getting a bad rap: I am defending REV who isn't aware of this thread. As per REV get the coil bind of the spring, add the lift from Lou's cam, and if you are not at least .070 higher for your install heights THEY ARE WRONG.....FACT.
One other thing to keep in mind is that springs and retainers are not sold in 'sets' You pick a spring and it can be rated for up to .650 lift but the retainers sold with them from a vendor can't be correct for all set-ups. If you contact any one of the spring manufacturers, they have multiple retainers for every spring they sell. REV will ask you what the final height is you need to set at and then they sell you the correct retainer.

It probably took 15 minutes to take it all apart, look and put it back together.
I was already out in the garage doing the CLB bypass kit, so now my car is 100% again. :hurray:
