Default Questions about where to start...

I have a 2002 Coupe. Currenlty it is essentially stock sans the exhaust and black wing.

What is the sequence of mods in order to reach the optimal potential of a NA engine, in other words:

1. What bolt on mods are necessary before any internal work is done.

2. What is the first and least expensive internal mod to start with.

3. What additional internal mods would be advisable.

I don't care to do any type of forced induction. I am aware that the best bang for the buck is most likely going with 4.10's in the rearend. However, from what I have read those do not work well once you get the engine built above a certain level. I would like to work on the engine first.

Headers would be the next logical mod since you've already got the Blackwing. Headers will help your stock internal engine as well as be a benefit after you start modifying the internal engine. If you plan to change your displacement in the future, that may cause you to need to change your headers to a larger size, so you might want to think about that in your header selection. After headers, I'd go with a cam and then heads, or do both cam and heads together. Next up the ladder of speed and cost would be stroking the motor to larger displacement.

-start with air in and air out....intake and exhaust. cold air intake, long tube headers, xpipe, exhaust. this is really all the "bolt - on" you'll need.

decide if you then want to go into the engine or go with forced induction (s/c, turbos, or nos) IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO FORGE THE BOTTOM END! which means going into your engine anyways. therefore if you chose to go this route you may want to go with a stroke package with low compression.

sit down and decide the following:

1. how much power do i want to make and where?
2. how much am i willing to spend?
3. how long will i keep the car?
4. do i give a poopie about the warranty (because you WILL void it)
5. who do i want to do the work?? (very important!)

i reccomend talking to one of the vendors before buying anything just to run it by them....MTI, LG, LPE, DRM, 21ST, ECT, ECT....
