It's starting to cool off up here and my car feels like it's just ripping lately! :steering: Feels like an extra 20 horse. :reddevil I love it! Traction's a problem on the cold asphalt though.
:p:
Re: How much does temperature affect H.P? (lager99)
You are probably correct. On a car like our C5's the ambient temperature can pretty easily swing the rwhp by 30. I have personally seen a 2 MPH difference in the quarter mile and hour trap speed just from 90 degrees to 60 degrees.
Re: How much does temperature affect H.P? (lager99)
There is a member on this forum who is in Alaska and drove his Vette in something like -20 degree temperatures! He said it was like his stock C5 was like a Z06! I have driven my modded Vette in 20 degree clear cold temperatures, and it was like a different car!
Re: How much does temperature affect H.P? (lager99)
I've heard that every ten degree drop is a 3% dain in horsepower. If you do the math this turns out to just over a 1 horsepower gain for every 1 degree drop in temperature on a stock ls1.
So its ~1.11% hp per 10degrees F temp change (no humidity or pressure changes)

I would go with that. :yesnod: Im my RWHP is 387 and morning temp is 30 degrees F than it would be a 5.55% increase, 408 RWHP. 21 ponies. Pretty close guess.
Re: How much does temperature affect H.P? (Midwayman)
A couple of years ago when tuners were working on the 160 degree stats etc one of them found that a stock ls1 produced max power at 178 degrees on the dyno, he also stated that at 200 degrees it cost about 15 rwhp. FWIW
