With regard to throttle bodies, what would you guys recommend in terms of brand and size? And, what kind of performance increase is realistic assuming all other usual bolt on mods are in place on an otherwise stock 98 coupe, 6spd. I have seen several references from forum members stating that they would not use one that was too big. How big is too big?
The stock intake manifold seems to be the limiting factor. If the FAST intake manifold is a success & it produces the power it says, I think going w/ a larger throttle body at that time would help out. But, i'd hold out on throttle bodies as I'm anxiously awaiting independent dyno numbers for this mod.
I'd like to see the combo of the LSX intake manifold along w/ their 90mm throttle body on a head & cam car. I'd like to see a 20-25hp improvement w/ no heat sink.
Picked up 4 HP at the wheels and a lot of drivability increase by porting, re-shaping, and epoxying my stock GM throttle body (at the time I went from 338 to 342 HP @ the wheel)....I just did another one that will be going on a chassis dyno sometime next week....Will post the results from that test as soon as I have the info....The better throttle response and "tip in" alone is worth the mod without the gain in HP...but was glad to see it picked up a few ponies as well (It had WAY better "SOTP" feel than the LS6 intake I bolted on!)
Regards,
Tony

Tony,
I do want to see the dyno sheet. Is this on a stock c5 or z06?
Regards,
Tony
Don't have the dyno sheets handy from my own car...ran many tests that day (22 pullls on the chassis dyno), but they are stored in the computer @ Westech's Dyno facility in Mira Loma CA. I will be there in the next month or so, and can access them at that time, however, I just finished re-working another one, and I'm hoping to see similar results both on the car and on the chassis dyno confirming my results (I just sent it to a Corvette shop in NY that a buddy of mine owns...) That dyno information will hopefully be available to me next week (certainly within two, depending on his dyno time schedule). By the way, my car is a 6 speed LS1 with lots of bolt-ons....bone stock heads and cam....best # to date is 346 @ the wheels...(No headers yet either....thats the next in line and I'm hoping they "tie it all together")
Then in a few months things really heat up by bolting on a set of the new AFR205's and sliding a new camshaft in....My "optimistic goal" is 450 @ the wheels with my stock shortblock....We'll see
I copied and pasted that response (which I wrote from work) to email from my home....modified it a bit when I got here and didnt see the last few lines of my post.
Which brings me to another topic....sometimes I can post replies from my computer at work and and sometimes I can't....
Does anyone else have any trouble like that??
Usually, I can always post from my computer at home though....Go figure
Tony M.
PS Too funny....as I go to post this response (from home), it doesn't work!!
Will try again later....I guess the Forum server has been kinda off these days!
