I don't want anything I can't drive with for a daily driver or for long trips. I am having my motor reringed and would like to have the cam swapped since they will be rebuilding it anyway. Any recommendations?
what is this with people worrying about being able to drive the car daily?? I"m just worried about the fuel mileage. As long as it idles, I say get the baddest cam you can. Otherwise, you'll be wishing you did later.

What is this with people worrying about fuel mileage?? I'm just worried about going fast. Who buys a sportscar and worries about mileage? :D
Just funnin' with you, robl45. :)
For the record, I do like it when I can tell people that I can do 85 mph from Chicago to Atlanta and get 31 mpg; but I wouldn't care if it was 21 mpg as long as it still drove like it does!
31 MPG? Do you get that in the USA or in Fantasy land? Seriously, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but how do you guys come up with these figures? I'm lucky if I can get 25MPG on the highway and 18 driving around town. I know the AC is always on, but I have a stick and I'm in sixth as quick as possible. But with regards to the cam issue, if its a stick, it should be drivable no matter what. all of the cams I've seen here seem to have plenty of low end torque. I had a pretty aggressive cam in my TA and I drove it every day without any problems

Well . . . I note my starting mileage, I print the receipt from the gas pump each time I fill up, and then I divide miles driven by gallons pumped. It's usually pretty close to the DIC numbers but I depend more on good old fashioned math to make sure there's no computer funny business going on. Understand that this is all with a bone-stock '99 coupe being driven at mostly steady-state speeds over long distances in 6th gear. I put on a Blackwing last night and am putting on a Z06 Ti exhaust tomorrow but I can't see either of those changes making material changes to my mileage - but like I said, I couldn't care less if they do.
Check with Thunder racing for the best cam to install?
Should be 114 LSA
I am installing 224 561 114

:iagree: The 224/.561/114 would be a very good cam to fit your requirements...IMO.
In fact, 21MC right here in Dallas can fix you right up with a cam like that. They do nice work, and what a super clean shop!!!

After much research, my car's at the Vette Doctors right now having this cam installed. It was the most aggressive cam I could go with that will still pass NY emissions. Paul @ Thunder Racing was very helpful in the selection process.
I have an MTI T1, 221,.558,112lsa. I drive this car everywhere. I experienced no loss in highway gas mileage with this cam. Consistantly 30mpg with the AC on in 6th gear. I have put 16,000 miles on my car since the cam swap.
Being 112lsa it did require some tuning for idle, which I have done myself using LS1Edit.
