I JUST CHANGED MY 98 AUTO 2.73 TO 3.42 LAST NIGHT WITH MY SON. IT WAS VERY EASY BECAUSE WE HAD ALL THE RIGHT STUFF. 5:45PM ON THE ROAD AT 10:15 PM, BACK IN GARAGE 10:16 PM AND HOOK UP THE THINGS WE FORGOT TO!LOL :D . BACK ON ROAD 10:30PM. WOW WHAT A DIFFERANCE!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbs: :thumbs: :thumbs: ONLY PROBLEM IS SHIFT POINTS ARE WAY OFF! I HAVE A HYPERTECH PROGRAMMER III. CAN I USE IT TO RESET SHIFT AND SPEEDOMETER?
THE GUY WITH THE 97, jfss3bat GO THE 3.42. MY FRIEND WENT 3.15 AND IS GOING TO 3.42. JUST A SUGGESTION.

 

If I remember correctly, the Hypertech will only allow you to program up to a 3.15 on a 98.

it may say that, but the hypertech does not perform gear scaling for C5 corvettes. It works on F-Body cars... but not the C5.

I just did this change on my 2002. You're right, what a difference. I bought the Predator and had them (Johan) do a custom tune for me via email. As I understand it, some Predator dealers can do this too. It works great. Speedo and general operation is great. Your biggest challenge will be the shift points (not bumping the rev limiter) and the predator can easily make these adjustments for you. On my convertible, I set the shift points at 6100 rpm / 47 mph 1st, 6000 rpm / 86 mph 2nd and 6000 rpm / 125 mph 3rd. You can adjust many other things with the predator. If you get one, email me and I'll give you my settings (two cents) for starters. :iagree:

 

you need to get it done with LS1 edit

hypertech/predator will not work for a 98'
predator does not even make a programer for a 98'
and the hypertech will only do 3.15's

i just got off the phone with somewhat arrogant people at hypertech. I told them my shift point problem and they said they do not support 3.42 gearing. I said according to your book you do. He said “NO WE DON’T, LOOK AT IT, IT SAYS MANUAL ONLY” :mad :mad :mad I answered "CHILL" :nono: MY book says automatic. THEY ANSWERED, OH, THAT WAS AN ERROR ON OUR PART, (SLIGHT SNICKER) WE THOUGHT IT WOULD WORK, BUT IT DOESN'T :lol: I asked him what am i supposed to do now. he would just restate it cant be done. then commented on HOW OLD IS YOUR HYPER BOOK? ITS 5-6 YRS OLD!!!!! I said so what, so is my 98 vette. i bought them together.
WELL WHY DID YOU WAIT TIL JUST NOW?
what differance does that make? :confused: I just spent $1200 to buy and have installed. now it will cost me another $3-400 to have the original put back in.
then he has the nerve to say "yeah" YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE IT, WE DON'T SUPPORT 3.42.
i asked for a supervisor, he was as unhelpful(new word :lol: ) and said same thing the tech said, i asked for compensation to cover the labor and i can resell the carrier, he said no way not our problem. well the following must have taken place when i hung up the phone.
