Hey guys I just put 295/35/18 on the back wheels of my z06.. I took my car for a test drive and the back end seems to float... It scary its almost wobbly... The tires have 35 psi... What the heck is going on... ?? Please help me
Way, way too much air dude!!!!!!!!!! Lower to 20 psi for the track, you can play with that # to find the best sticking point. That will eliminate the float, air them back up for the drive home. :D
When I take this on the highway is when I get float though and thats at 35 psi... not at the track... Could i run them at 20 psi all the time so I won't get float?
If you are comparing the ride to the runflats, it does feel very different at first. :)
I would drop the pressure down to abou 28psi. On drag radials I usually will run 25psi at the most. If you think your tires are wobbly, you should take a ride on ET streets at 15psi on the freeway.
Play with the pressure a little. Don't worry, the car will handle just fine.
Ok also will then run at 25 or 28 psi for long period of time on the highway such as 200 miles or so without blowing out?? :D The number one cause of tire blow outs is underinflation so i'm worried about underinflating them to much and boom there goes my $250 tire
I guess it should be mentioned, that although you can drive on the street with those DR's, they're usually considered to be a tire that is used at the track, and then switch back to more of a road handling tire, KD's, or Nitto Extremes for the street when you return. Just a thought. ;)
I know I know guys.. with time I'll get used to it... The passengers in my car though will be poopin' a brick lol... A 50k car that wobbles outstanding... Anyways will the tire blow at 28 psi for a 200 mile trip? Is it risky and stuff? Still haven't gotten that answered
This is the same problem that "Mikie C" had when replacing his 315/17 with 315/18's. The sidewall seems to be softer for better "reaction" on the starting line at the track, but you will get the "sway" with it. There is no known correction for it, it is something that you will have to get used to. It's almost easier to race on ET Streets then on these new 18" tires....but they do hook at the track....it may be an "undesireable" trait for them.
I do 100 mile round trips to my track at 25psi or less, never a problem. Remember, as they heat up the pressure with rise anyway. I'd start with 25 cold.
I have the same ones and drive all the time on them. I put 25-27 in the rears. At 25 your low pressure sensor won't go off all the time.
Mine isn't a daily driver and I have a mean TC 3600 2.5 str. I like these tires and don't notice much float in just regular driving and so far I have pulled a 1.70 60' and a 7.58 at the track.
Cold. This was the pressure I ran for on the street.
Never saw them get higher than 30 except when I made my trip to Houston. Got up to 32psi then, but wasn't a problem as IH-10 from S.A. to Houston is mostly flat and straight!
Mine is 25, 26 in the rear after they are warmed up! these are really soft and if you over fill them they will not last as long. They will only last (so I am told) about 5K depending on how much you go to the track.
