Default Piston compression when changing brakes?

When changing breaks on the vette, do you need anything special to compress the pistons?

6" C-clamp and a piece of wood does it for me. :yesnod:

Nothing special - some guys just use channel locks or similar. I use a C-clamp and place one of the old pads up against the pistons. I also have speed-bleeders installed and loosen them so that when the piston is compressed the fluid in the caliper is pushed out of the system rather then back up towards the master cyl.

:iagree:
Thats the correct way to do it. Keep all that nasty crap out of your ABS system.

Service manual says to take the cover off the brake fluid resevore and then it is pretty easy to do even with just your hands.
