Nothing special - some guys just use channel locks or similar. I use a C-clamp and place one of the old pads up against the pistons. I also have speed-bleeders installed and loosen them so that when the piston is compressed the fluid in the caliper is pushed out of the system rather then back up towards the master cyl.

Thats the correct way to do it. Keep all that nasty crap out of your ABS system.
