Default 04 Z06 Shock Question?

I have a 99 FRC with Z51. Will these really make much of a diference? I definetly drive it hard through the twisties as you can see from my sig.

Hi,
I installed the 04 shocks and Z06 bars on my 99 FRC. These shocks are much stiffer than the Z51’s and make the ride rougher. My definition of a rough ride is that you can’t drive with a full cup of coffee on the freeway without spilling it. The ’04 shocks are better at putting the power down on a rough roads. At Willow Springs yesterday the car felt well damped over the bump at turn 6 at speed. I was a little disappointed in the shocks when I drove them on the street before running at a track and would not recommend them for a street-only Z51 unless you are one of the group that likes high gains at any cost in comfort. If you are a hi-gain driver or you track the car, then I suggest both the bars and the shocks. Just the bars alone are under damped with the Z51 shocks.
Good luck, your mileage may very,
Steve

Thanks alot for all the info. I really don't care about the ride comfort. I will have to think about it.

I also have a 99 Coupe with the Z51 package. I'm looking at the '04 shocks (I'm thinking the Z51 sways are good enough).

Just a thought.... Is it possible that your origanal shocks from 99 are wearing out and riding soft?? Maybe just a standard replacement would feel rough.

It is my understanding that the '04 provide a better than stock replacement ride and handling.

Hi,
My 99 Z51 with 40k miles rode rougher than my 02 F45 with 10k. I agree that new stock shocks will ride rougher especially for the first 100 miles or so. The 04 Z shocks loosened up but the first rides were shocking.

I think Chevy says that these shocks will improve the ride of a Z06 not a Z51 or base suspension. Anyway, I get the impression that I prefer the low end of ride roughness. I hope that on the C6 Chevy does adaptive sway bars like BMW or more electronics to widen the total suspension performance package. I think that in the near future we will be laughing at the rough rides we think are hi performance today.
Good luck with your car,
Steve
