I am currently in the market for a new set of tires to replace the stock Goodyear EMT's that came on my 99. I have noticed alot of posts on this site where people are putting non-runflats on as replacements. If I were to do that I would definitly put on the Goodyear D3's, however I must say that I like the safety feature of the runflat technology and not having to change a tire, and I don't do any serious track racing. But, I would like some comments on the best performing runflat tire out there. I went on tirerack.com and noticed that the Yokohama AVS is the only max performance summer tire that is a runflat. I know that i want something other than the goodyears and I am leaning towards the Yoko's. But, I have heard that firestone was rated as the best runflat tire for the vette? If you have replaced your original goodyear emt's with a different runflat tire, please comment so I can make an educated decision. Thanks. :troll
You'll be happy w/ firestone over GY adding that the FS work good in the rain.
I am on a 2nd set of FS, however, they are very slick until warmed and do slide (predictable) when hot.
For my next set I wanted to try something else, even though the FS are a good standard replacement....Yoko, BFG-SSS, Kuhmo.
I've red the SSS do not work at all in the wet, so they may not be a good choice for a daily driver. I read the Yoko rubber is susceptible to age. After a year the rubber has lost its stick'em. Kuhmo...production issue not available. I have no comment on the Michelin other than the FS are comparable and cheaper. Might want to investigate tread-wear ratings. Lower the sticker (in theory).
I have the Firestone runflats and are very happy with them. They aren't as noisy and seem to be wearing better. On my next tire change I will look at the others availabe but they will need to be a lot better to offset the price and value I think that I'm getting with the Firestones---which, incidentally, have a better treadwear rating than the Goodyears but are rated for only 50 miles "runflat" compared to the GY's 200 miles as I recall.
I have the Michelin Pilot Runflats also and I might add if you do any 1/4 mile
running they hook up very well for me(1.86 60 ft times). I thought about dragradials but the Michelin's hook, are quiet, and so far getting good mileage........well maybe not my back tires ;) ;) ;) . :iagree:
"Check out Michelin Pilot Sport Z/P.
Good traction, low noise, good wear."
:iagree:
I just bought a set of the Pilot Sport A/S non-run-flats for my daily driver '99 Coupe. So far they are a great tire. I'm sure the run flat version would be just as good. If you do NOT drive in winter, then get the summer version of this tire. I've heard LOTS of good comments about that one.
