This afternoon I went to a new dyno shop (Dyno Labs in San Ramon) and we spent almost four hours and many pulls on the dyno...for which he only charged me an hour. From a prior dyno day at another shop, I had 317.1 hp and 318.6 tq but tonight we started at 320.2 hp and 321.6 tq and ended up at 325.2 hp and 330.1 tq. We actually got up to 329.3 hp but the A/F mixture was too lean for my taste. The good thing is that with the dyno and MAF translator we were able to keep testing and experimenting until we got rid of a small knock, changed the air fuel ratio (base and wot), and increased performance.
If you're in the area, this is a great place to go---and at least in my case, it was sure worth the time and money spent. At the prior dyno shop I only gained 1 hp with the addition of the MAFT but here he took the time to figure out what was best and it came out great. So now I finally think that my MAFT is worth it. :yesnod:
Re: Great MAFT and Dyno benefits today. (90 droptop)
The MAFT works good for adjusting your a/f at wide open throttle. However, it's BASE or part-throttle adjustment gets learned out quickly by the 02s. Also remember that the BASE and WOT settings are accumulative.
I remember back in the day when a MAFT was the only thing we had to tune a LS1 with unless you did mailorder PCM programming!
I definately had a nice seat of the pants improvement when I installed the MAFT and adjusted it with autotap. You can pick up a used one for around $100 which makes it one of the best bang for the buck if you have intake, headers, exhaust :D If anyone is looking for one, I'm selling mine ;)

Would you expand on this ?????I have it on my c5 and has dropped a 1/10 or 2 using atap and the narrow band o2 sensor(I know it's not very accurate)and track time to draw conclusions.(same night racing)
Re: Great MAFT and Dyno benefits today. (FunDriver)
Agree totally. I started at 316 HP, ended at 326 and was acceptably OK on the fuel side as well as no KR. Ten HP made a noticeable seat of the pants diff.
Best bang for the buck when you consider the cost. My '99 FRC is essentially stock except for the MAF-T and XPipe.

Great job, who was the first tuner?
The first tuner was Ralph at Ralph's Hotrod Heaven in Rancho Cordova, up by Sacramento. I heard that he no longer has a dyno.
This new shop is really good on customer service. I think I had 13 pulls over some 4 hours and he only charged for 1 hours work. Of course he said that he was having fun working with the MAFT too---but on top of that, he is going to give me some free pulls in a week or so after I've driven the car just to make sure that everything is ok and stays the same.
