Default PCM: Loose in bracket after reinstall; normal?

Reinstalled my PCM last night after having it reprogrammed. Tightened the two screws that hold the bracket, but the PCM is loose. I don't recall any shims and there's no parts left over

Did I miss something on the reinstall :bb , or is this normal? I just can't see the thing rattling around in there by design. Anyone experience the same thing and come up with a solution (other than duct tape, that is)?

It should go in just as tight as before you removed it. Mine went back in tight as a drum. Are you sure you positioned it properly before securing it? There are no shims.

Yep. Put it in just like it came out. Didn't have the foresight to try to wiggle it before I unclamped it, that's why I'm clueless. Figured it should be secure, though. Still don't know what's up. The bracket and screws are tight. Any other ideas or similar experiences?

Sounds like you broke the rear bracket when you reinstalled.

Cheap plastic that doesn't like a lot of torqueing. No biggie as long as one of the screws is holding it in place. Definitely a pain to take the whole thing out again to super glue the pieces.

Bracket's not broken.

Part of what's got me confused is that the bracket is intact and snug! The PCM just floats within the bracket. When I was reassembling, I had to clean dirt / debris out of the bracket, so it's obvious that the PCM wasn't really, really snug to begin with. Did the factory have different sizes of PCM casings in '97? Maybe they used an incompatible bracket with my PCM? Anyone know if the PCM case sizes changed from year to year? Is it possible that my PCM was replaced before I purchased the car and they used one from a different model year??

Still looking for something that clicks. Ideas anyone

Niether one of mine float in the bracket. There are "tabs" on the side of the PCM that slide into contoured slots on the bracket. It should be a tight fit.

Thanks. This one is definitely different than mine. Mine is enclosed in a cast aluminum case with fins on both sides.

The bulge at the bottom is similar to mine, and that's what rides in the bracket. Regardless of what I find out, I'm going to have to shim my PCM in the bracket somehow to secure it....maybe with weatherstripping rubber to help isolate vibrations. Still, the whole thing has me curious.
