The dealer just ordered the parts for mine...........common problem on the C5. Depending on the dealer, location, etc. you're looking at somewhere in the vicinity of $600.00.....maybe less, maybe more. Good luck.... :(
My preimier extended warrenty covered this problem. My dealer told me I save $1700. Its being "fixed" as we speak. Now that I think about it since this was suposed to be a recall for all c5's my dealer is probally lieing to me because they shoudl fix it for free anyways. But they want me to feel better because I got hosed on the $2000 3 year warenty.
Mine is going in tomorrow. The leak started off slow (1 drip every few days), but accelerated quickly over a few weeks. Now I loose several drops every time I stop.
Contrary to my usual luck, I am in the 71st month of my 72 month GMPP coverage!
C-5 Tech was exactly right.. The rear housing seal. It's an $11 part, but it's 7.4 hours labor to change it!! GMPP covered it or it would have cost $550
skidmarc, are you sure it is the trans and not the rear drivers side differential? This is a common prob with C5's. I do a lot of high speed driving events and my 99' has leaked from day one. Many people on this forum who have had the seal replaced still experience leaks. A new service bulletin uses a different seal/method, not sure which. Also, my local chevy C5 mechanic says that the vent that can be felt on the top of the diff on the drivers side is in line with the gear and during high speed driving has the ability to sling up rear diff fluid and out the vent. He says GM is considering redesigning the vent to prevent this. He says that the rear diff leak can come from the vent area or around the seal area. He says you must check for both. If the source of the leak is the vent, there is nothing you can do. If it is coming from the seal area, this must be replaced. I know this sounds like bunk, but it is what a certified C5 mechanic that I know very well is saying.
I had mine done 2 weeks ago. Took it in for the rear diff. leak and they notified me of the tranny leak too. They fixed the leaks but my understanding was these are both TSB's not recalls?? My GMPP paid for itself that day.
Bill thanks for the info....I am sure its the tranny...I had ECS put it up on the lift and look it over with me.....I am waiting for an appointment with a dealership! Gonna have the detent spring replaced at the same time too....
I will have him check the vent and rear to see if that comes into play as well.
