Does a mass air sensor really do anything?Putting on a high flow air intake and have a chance to buy a used mass air flow sensor. Is it worth the $200 dollars?Never knew anyone that had installed one before.Any comments?
Re: MODIFIED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WITH AIR INTAKE? (Southview)
Most people don't have good luck with changing MAF's. The stock one flows pretty well allready, so there's not much to gain for a near stock engine combo, but lots to lose if the new one doesn't match up well. I, personally wouldn't mess with it unless I was running a supercharger or big cubes engine. JMHO :auto:

:iagree: I went ahead and did what you are asking about and did not notice any difference except for cosmetic look. This was substantiated when I had the car dynoed. Put the the money away and save it for something worth while.
Re: MODIFIED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WITH AIR INTAKE? (Bat Boy99)
I wouldnt spend the money for a airbridge, but I have expermented with Ported ends on many LT1 and LT1 Cars. Every car acts differently. My Z28 Liked the Ported ends until the addition of MTI heads and cam. I removed them do to associated pinging.
However my Vette loves them... I changed them in the staging lane and went from a 13.1 @ 108 Average to a 12.9 @ 110.52 low 13.0's @ 109+ on the same day, back to back runs. Needless to say they work on my car. :)
This was all through the removed cover, stock airfilter

Did you give your PCM time to recalibrate for the change? or did the change just temporarily lean out you A/F mix to a better ratio to give you more power for a short period of time?
Re: MODIFIED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WITH AIR INTAKE? (TopCat)
I liked my granatelli maf when all I had was the T1 intake and exhaust. Alot of their effectiveness is in the electronics in it as it will lean you out to get the advertised power. If you plan to keep the mods to simple bolt ons then I think I'd get one, but if you plan to get a blower, h/c and an ls1 edit, I'd stay with the stock one and MAYBE remove the screen or not. Problem is that the maf electronics will try to relearn or superimpose their readings in place of the pcms after the ls1 edit tune. Hence pinging is common as the above post states

No I did it in the staging lane, I will tell you that the LTFT were @ -10 prior to the addition of the ported ends, and even months later they are near 0 now. Like I said all cars are different. My car was running quite rich the gain was to come to from leaning it out slightly.
