After I cut the top threads off (made it shorter also), I cut threads with a 9/16 x18 die and was able to put an MGW **** on it. I probably could have used any **** except the stock one.

BTW: A Mallett shifter is a modified stock shifter made by Mallett cars - Supporting Vendor/Tuner
I've seen and felt the Mallett, and they are really smooth between gears. It has a smaller "upside-down teardrop" handle on it, small for some, but very comfortable. No notchy feeling like you get with some aftermarket shifters (like I have). $400 is steep. Find someone who has one and try it out. You'll probably like it. Enough to spend $400? Up to you...
