Re: WOOHOO PIX ARE UP.....TRANSGO install pix inside (dads01dream)
I'm planning to have Mike Norris put one of these in for me. I'm a do it yourself kind of guy, and have done all the mods on mine so far....auto tranny work is right up there with brain surgery to me, I haven't got a clue! I'll gladly pay to have it done! Thanks for the great write up and pics!

Thanks for the excellent write up and pics. It took some big cajones to tackle that project the first time. My hat's off to you. I'm not that brave, good thing that FLP is close to me.
Re: WOOHOO PIX ARE UP.....TRANSGO install pix inside (LuvmyC5)
hi guys, i just received an email the other day from
"Transmission Exchange Co." <mail@txchange.com> , it says the the TransGo kit may not work for 98 and newer 4L60E cars?!!!
my car is 98 and i want to know if ne1 have a 98 c5 with a transgo kit?
here is the email:
"the Reprogramming kit will not perform properly in some 1998 and newer 4L60E equipped vehicles, due to the computer mapping properties of some of these vehicles. Unfortunately GM does not supply the information to determine whether your vehicle is so equipped.
this leaves the choice to:
1. buy a shift kit
2. install a reprogramming kit and if the computer starts retarding the engine timeing remove the kit.
4L60E Transgo Performance Shift Kit (Reprogramming Kit) for do-it-yourself installation
1993-1997 (most 98 up)
Holds 1st-2nd-3rd at any RPM. Backshifts at your command. Fixes engagement/delay bang. Reduces the chance of 3-4 clutch failure Includes video $109.95
SK® 4L60E (Shift Kit)
$43.60
4L60E
1993 up
Prevents/Corrects/Reduces:
Cut loose & bang from reverse
to drive; forward and low/reverse clutch burn up; 1-2 bump;
double bump; slide-bump; delayed reverse engagement hot. this kit comes with very
detailed instructions, however I would recommend professional installation if you are not familiar with transmission repair."

Q8Y, Sorry, but I believe you have old information, you are referencing a 93-97 kit... but there are subtle differences from 98-02, make sure you get the right year kit.

Would you mind telling me where to find a kit for my 1998 C5, please?

Hey, here's a question..... It states you can "backshift at your command" - Does this mean what I think? You can actually upshift & DOWNSHIFT at will!!!
Man, why would anyone even think to purchase a 6 speed?? Sounds like an absolute win/win modification.
Could someone with the Transgo chime in on how it is "self-shifting" the A4. :seeya

Yes it does mean what you think it does
Transgo has a kit for manual shifting the auto... :steering: 1 > 2 > 3 > 2 > 3 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 3> 2 > 1 > 2 > 3 > 2 > 3 > 2 > 3 > 4 :D
Re: WOOHOO PIX ARE UP.....TRANSGO install pix inside (2001 Red Coupe Bandit)
yes you drill holes in the PWM plate shown in pix 2. you need to check six or seven holes for recommended diameter. I've found some stock holes even larger...didn't seem to matter though. Some discussion here that bigger holes assist a higher stall T/C. need to check w/experienced tranny tuner. I'm not one of them .....yet.... :D
Re: WOOHOO PIX ARE UP.....TRANSGO install pix inside (jawski)
This mod ups the firmness of the shifts right? I have a Diablo handheld programmer that can do that too by increasing the pressure. are these springs better than the programer and what are the advantages to this shift kit? also its said on the web site that you can hold any rpm in any gear and down shift at will. Does this mean that when you are driving you would shift your automatic Trans just as you would a manual??? So when I was at a light would I start from first and go up? Sorry for all the questions, I hope i dont seem like too much of a :_dupe: Love the pics by the way. Thanks for the help

The kit quickens and firms up the shift. I had the HPPIII which also increased pressure. Increased pressure is no where as good as the mechanical changes. See Transgo description of the shift process with the mod. I can manually shift from a stop from first gear (lay a little rubber) to redline then shift to second (lay a little rubber) to redline, then shift to third to redline...never took 4 to redline :bb OR i can drive around all day in first, or second or third, OR place in D and it shifts automatically. :hurray:
Re: WOOHOO PIX ARE UP.....TRANSGO install pix inside (jawski)
Jawski...you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about this install. Today Mike Norris worked all day on it, and it basicly has no reverse and the shifts are soft! I have to take it back Monday and he's gonna try and figure it out. Obviously, he's going to take it all apart and check everything again, any idea's what went wrong? He's going to make it work, I just couldn't leave the car there over the weekend. I couldn't find any tech help doing Transgo searches. :seeya
Re: WOOHOO PIX ARE UP.....TRANSGO install pix inside (Jim Terry)
Someone didn't pay attention to what they were doing. No reverse is a dead give away. Seems that some parts were left out and/or reversed the order of reinstallation. What kit was installed?
