Could not find anything by searching the forum, have a basic question. I must replace the tranny pan in my 98 A4, and have the service manual as a guide. While I will have the pan, gasket, and filter kit, I read where it is necessary to check the bolts/washers and replace if washers are inverted. Is this usually necessary for what appears to be a tranny with no maintenance to date--if so, I need to find a few bolts just in case. Any suggestions on where I could get a handful quickly?
In addition, I have no desire to flush everything out this time, but notice the fill procedure involves adding fluid via the check plug, basically adding fluid horizontally. Any suggestions here are appreciated as well, especially regarding estimated amount of fluid required. I will have the luxury of a vehicle lift, not on jack stands.
See the end of my thread. You will need about 4 qts with pan removal. Trash the bolts with washers and get later year bolts..no washer req'd. I use a 3/8" gas fitting elbow (same thread as drain plug) threaded into a hose barbed fitting, long piece of 3/8" clear tubing and funnel. set the fitting at 3 o'clock position and fill away. when fluid begins to backup into the tube you're full. Overfill because you will lose some when you remove the fitting and insert the drain plug.
Very helpful--thank you very much. I'll check the local dealers to see if they have any new OEM bolts in stock. Might anyone on the forum be able to 2 day ship me a set if the local dealers are out?
