Re: optima yellow vs. red top? (SLO VETTE)
Depends on your application. If your electrical load is stock than a Red Top is the one you want. If you have a heavy electrical load (like a Mega Watt stereo) than a Yellow top is the one.
You can probably get it cheaper at Summit or Jegs.
when i did my battery relocation, i used the red top, never had a problem with it, the battery you are looking for is group size 75, then just pick the CCA's that you want (i think there is 700 and 900 but im not sure)
I just purchaced a red top (for my 2000FRC) at Pep Boys last night -- 120 bucks.
Size 34/78 (800CCA). Fit in perfectly. Had to "unlock" my stereo, and set the clock afterward- but that's it.
I just switched from a Yellow to a Red this morning :cuss :cuss
Several days ago I noticed that when first starting the car it was turning over a little slower before firing up. The voltage gauge was slower in coming up and then would be charging in the high 14s to low 15s for several minutes. I have a new alternator and my yellow top was almost three years old so I had a feeling it was dying.
Got slightly cool here last night and sure enough...went to crank the car this morning and got the dreaded clicks but accessories were still working. :cry
Went and picked up a red top at AutoZone and all is well again. I went with the red because it has a three year warranty whereas the yellow was only a year. So far my big ole stereo system seems to not notice the difference.
I figure I got my money's worth out of the Yellow :D
