Re: Doing some researched before buying a C5 (TheStef)
Generally the C5 is a reliable vehicle.
The only real advice I can give is to hang out here on the forum. Read the post and do a search on things that may concern you. Things that bother some people may not bother others.
Best of luck to ya,

Re: Doing some researched before buying a C5 (TheStef)
Just got my first C5 after owning a red '89 and a polo green '95. The research I did was to hang out in the C5 forum, read the different posts and bought the Corvette Black Book by Antonick. Very useful book as it details all the improvements over the years. I noticed that the 2001 C5 was bumped up by 5 HP over the earlier C5s. Changes to the 6-speed and some other things. You can fine tune the year by reading up on the changes and decide which year fits your buget. There was a good article in issue # 8 of Corvette magazine. (November) It goes into detail about the prices of the C5s and projects some good deals when the C6 is released. Hope this helps. :chevy
Re: Doing some researched before buying a C5 (Shortimer)
Your going to be blown away by the improvements made from the C4 to the C5. I sold my 92 coupe and bought my 98 Vert and was shocked at the improvements. Just make sure that the usual problems with C5's have been taken care of before you buy the car (column lock, seat belt guide, seat track rocking, battery leaks, fuel gauge etc. etc.) Just do the typical research you would do on any car purchase and you should be fine!!! Good Luck!!

Re: Doing some researched before buying a C5 (TheStef)
When you get ready to buy, have a dealer run a service history on the car and then be sure to get it checked out by a very competent mechanic. Common problems have been leaking differential, column lock, oil consumption (mainly '01's), erratic fuel guages. Keep browsing this forum also and you can learn alot about the C5's.
Re: Doing some researched before buying a C5 (JDs00PewterCoupe)
I sold my '93 40th AE MN6 Z07 coupe and got a '03 50th AE MN6 coupe. :D All I can say is "Wow, what a car". Everything about the C5 is great. Solid body, great power, and superb handling. The only thing I miss about the C4 are the sport seats and the ZF 6-speed. I hadn't even ridden in a C5 when I ordered it. I sold my C4 before I took delivery of the C5 and had a twinge of seller's remorse. :cry The minute I took delivery, I felt much better and have been smiling ever since.

Re: Doing some researched before buying a C5 (SLICKMAN)
I still have my 88 & recently gotta 2k ,the car is everything you wanted the c-4 to be,much more room,no squeeks, solid ride with ABS,traction control, active handling to keep you outta trouble,GUARANTEED HAPINESS,very easy to work on the engine.
Re: Doing some researched before buying a C5 (TheStef)
I have them both. One is a 93 40th Ruby Red Coupe and 2000 white and red CV. The C5 is a totally diffrent car. I guess that why at the auction I see C5 with high miliage.Like last week a 2002 had 87000 mile on it. If you can't keep the old one step up you will be glade you did. :steering: :auto:
Re: Doing some researched before buying a C5 (owner C4 & C5)
Thanks guys,
When I buy a C5 I'll probably get a 98 or 99, manual, coupe. I saw some for 30 to 38 K Canadian, and that doesn't seem to expensive for a C5. I figured I could get between 13 000 to 20 000 K for mine, I restored a lot of stuff on my car and the entire engine bay was rebuilt/engine fire. I know this might bring down the value of my car and scare off a lot of buyers, but the engine, tranny, and rear end are all new/rebuilt and the car works great... plus its a convertible. I know they are worth more then a coupe.
I think most 88's or even late C4 out there had a lot of repairs done on them anyway's.
My car works great, but I'm always looking at the C5 when they go by on the street and want one more and more each day that goes by.
I guess after I bank enough money and buy a house, I can put my C4 up for sale and start looking into buying a C5... who knows maybe by then the C6 won't be that expensive... hahaha
Ps:.... are you guys all doctors and lawers to afford a new C5 ?
