Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (Chandler)
I only drive on the street and will be putting in a PT2400.
I have driven a car with 3.73s/sy3500 and one with 3.42s/sy3500 both were fast, but I think the setup was too loose for me. Be sure you drive a car with a sy3500 or any high stall converter before you install one. You might love it like a lot do here on the forum or like me think it is to loose for everyday back and forth to work. I would like more from a dead stop or slow roll. The 3.73's seem to keep the car in the power-band very well, and all I need is some help at the start. What others say is tight , might be way to loose for you, and mpg will suffer with a loose setup in stop and go traffic, on the freeway it will lock up and no diff between it and a stock TC as far as mpg. So it depends on what you mean by mostly street driven. I would have put the converter in during the install of the 3.73's to save money but I could not find any at the time and you know how hard it is to wait on xmas :D it was was the same with the gears. :yesnod:
If you don't think the PT2400 will be enough ask some of the other members who have this setup. I have seen one member who said with the 3500 stall around town mpg was only around 13. Not to good for a daily driver IMHO.
If this is a run around town or weekend car, then the 3.73's and SY3500 is a killer street combo. But I would not want to drive it as my primary car.

Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (Chandler)
I'm runnin' a 3.73 with a YANK SS3800..the best of both worlds! The street manners are very easy to live with on a daily driver and the launch and pull at the track is second to none !! It also comes in a SS3600...

I agree the SS3800 is very streetable, but he'll never get traction on the street with that high of a STR unless he's running some sort of drag tire.
Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (Chandler)
Never had a traction problem with the 3.73's and ST-3500. I run Kuhmo's, but I don't race from light to light. The only time I have had traction problems was at the strip. Thfere is no looseness with the idle set at 775 in gear.
Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (wallstAL)
I am running 295/35/18 Kumho rears, so I guess the lower STR would be better. Wouldn't the higher gear compensate for the stall speed (stoplight to stoplight)?
Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (Chandler)
looseness is something that falls differently into each persons mind. After a torques converter locks up it runs the same as a lower stall TC, so 13mpg means someone is doing alot of full throttle jumps and consistent city driving only. You should try someones locally and make your own conclusion.
Mario got use to his (SY-3500 and 3.73's)looseness in about three minutes. He wouldnt change it for the world. Slipping into higher RPM's makes the car sound meaner (exhaust, headers) and it clearly moves faster. Too bad he also has a heavy foot, and mostly city driving, a new set of Goodyear GS-D3's are awaiting install with less than 8k on the odometer.
Anyone looking for a set of almost new runflats for the front ?? Should be off in a week. :D

Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (Killrwheels)
You would be foolish in my opinion to go with anything milder than a sy 3500 with your 3.73s. I have a PT 4000 and 3.73 and its 100% streetable for me with my 427 C5r motor making over 500rwtq. Do a Vstella and others here have suggested. GO with eithet the NEW YANK SS 3600 0r 3800 or SUPERTHRUSTER 3500 and get a MANS CONVERTER and not a mouses'!  :smash:
Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (MTI 427 Roadster)
Sounds like the smart thing to do for a daily driver. Go with a 4000 stall.
For some more speed on the street (and to really let everyone know that you are a REAL MAN, be sure and get some Honda mufflers and a New Speed sticker.
Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (TXSTICK)
I'd say go with a 2800-3200 stall speed t/c for the street. with 373 gears it will not be loose and you will take off like a rocket at stop lights while still retaining some sort of traction. :auto:  Just dont punch it... then you will spin!! :D
Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (vstella)
If you still have the rwhp in your sig, go with the tc. If you have plans to mod to add power, you might want to upgrade the tranny BEFORE loading up the stall to dump on it.

Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (blown in n.c.)
Same HP blown. Eventually I will do a h/c or blower, and at that time, will upgrade the tranny to handle the extra umph.
Txstick: This is my daily driver. In a few months, I will have a company car again, and this will be a weekend cruiser.
The Yank website says the ST3500 for my current setup, but they don't mention the SY3500 at all. It makes me wonder are they trying to get everyone buying the latest and greatest.

Actually, the latest and greatest would be the converters that VStella was talking about, the SS series. I've heard nothing but good things about these, but because of the high str, it might be a little rough on street tires to get traction. It's probably a different story on DR's or ET's. Good Luck on your choice, because there are a lot available.

If you are over 21 please disregard the above.

Let's keep the attitudes in check before someone whips out the, "y'all are a bunch of puzzies for not going with the 4.10s" comment :jester
Re: A4 with 3.73's, looking for a converter (Mean Green)
If you plan on going with a blower later on down the line, I would go with a 2800 or 3000.
H/C setup....SY3000 minimum.
Personally, I've had the 3.42 and SY3500, and wasn't too loose and worked just fine for me. However, I'm now going to see what the SS3800 can offer. Of course, my 'vette isn't a daily driver.

Yea, could be that alot has been said about how loose a SY3500 can be depending on your setup. The ST series or SS series have not had the same kind of comments thrown at them. Since this will be your FUN car, I would consider going with around a 3500 stall and make sure you have good tires.
