Had the chance to work on a 97 power driver set that had the 'rocking" problem. This link goes to web page showing write-up of what we did to fix the rocking. http://js-x.com/robbs/ken/corvette/seat/ Owner says rocking is no longer there. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has taken a seat track apart and if it had the "slack" space in the assembly.
I didn't wait for your pictures to open, but from the write-up, I think you have a solution to the problem. I've had mine apart and there is a rubber type spacer washer on both sides of the nut that runs on the worm gear, and takes up the slack you referr to inside the silver housing. I suspect that the rubber spacer washers are being crushed and cut when the seat is run to the extreme back position in the easy exit mode. Once they are crushed and cut, they eventually fall out and leave the slack in this part that causes the rocking seat. The solution is just as you have done, put something in there to take up the slack and won't be crushed, as long as it doesn't cause a bind in the works.
We didn't find anything under the seat when it was removed. I suspect what ever was in there, fell out, and had been cleaned out by previous owner. Would like to see what is in a new solid seat.
Awesome write up and find. I have not taken the seat bottom apart but I want to fix the problem and this is the answer. Seems it will take some work, but no costs that I can see besides a few washers.
This a gret write up. I don't have the "rocking seat" problem as of yet but, I am sure it will show up sooner or later. Just like my leaking diff and cracked window molding. I am awaiting the arrival of Column Lock issue and this. I have saved for future reference. Thanks
