It has happened to me for the third time in two weeks. The other two times I just left the car alone and returned to start it and drive off with no problem. This time it has stayed locked and my car is now stuck at a local restaurant! Is there anything short of a tow that I can do to get it home and install the CLB? GM has already fixed the problem several years back... Thanks in advance for all your help! An advise about where to get a CLB that is priced right and works well?
This has been happening to me for the last few weeks. I was actually just logging in to buy the bypass kit. In the meantime here is what you should do. Grab hold of the wheel with the key in the ignition but with the ignition off. Violently and yes you are doing it right if you think you might break something. (you won't) shake the wheel back and forth (left and right) as you are doing this turn the key to start the car. The wheel should unlock. It may not work the first time you do it. Just keep trying. It will unlock and you won't have to get the car towed. let me know if you are not sure of anything I said. It really does work. Good Luck... :smash: :steering:
Thanks for your response... My son and I are headed out to try your suggestion... Tomorrow I will order the CLB... I don't ever want to go through this again... Thanks for your response
Just back from "abusing" my steering wheel more than it has ever been abused.... Your suggestion worked and my car is safely in the garage. Thank you for your quick response. FYI - After I "unlocked" the column when I tried to drive away and the car stalled --- four times in all and the coloumn lock felt like it was still partially engaged! So I turned the car off and removed the key. The column locked liked it is designed to do. I turned the key to start the car like I would normally do and the column unlocked and the error message was now gone and I could now drive the car away! Tomorrow I will remove and replace fuses 23 and 25... I also order the mod that will prevent this from ever ocurring again... Thank you Corette Forum!
I'm new (two weeks) to the C5 world. I have a 2001 built towards the end of May, 2001. Is my car likely to have the same problem? Thanks for any input. :chevy
