Rollcage Installation Special...
For those of you that currently have, or plan to have, a high horsepowered vehicle, you may want to consider having your Corvette upgraded with a roll bar for added safety and to comply w/ the new NHRA/IHRA safety rules to compete at various dragstrips across the country.
The rules in these sanctioning bodies have been revised somewhat regarding rollbars use in terms of E.T. performance. Here is an excerpt from the 2003 NHRA rulebook:
...A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.99...
We've seen many Corvette's at, or very near this level of performance with just bolt-on's and some capable of 10 sec's and quicker, so if you want to visit your local dragstrip and make runs w/out constantly getting thrown out because you were to "quick", this upgrade may be for you.
Complete Details Are As Follows:
- Full 6 point roll bar (weld-in or bolt-in)
- Removable driver and passanger door bars
- 4130 chromoly steel tubing (1 3/4" dia. x .093" wall)
- Main hoop
- Crossbar (good for mounting camera's)
- Driver side main seat belt loop
- Bent rear bars to allow for/clear mini tubs
- Powder coated black
- Grade 8 fasteners (bolt-in)
- Cargo area size unaffected
- 1 pair aluminum door bar stub sleeves (protects stubs when bars are removed)
- Underbody anchor points sealed and undercoated (to prevent moisture intrusion into body and floor pan)
- 66 lb. installed weight
- Carpet professionally trimmed and fitted for O.E. appearance
- Professionally installed and integrated into vehicle
Installed Price: $1999.00
We have installed this very rollcage into Z06 Tom's Corvette (a member of Z06vette.com) and found the overall fit and finish of this unit to be very nice for the money spent. Here are some recent install photos of his car:

Also, without the driver/pass bar in, are the mounts in the way of entry and exit. These things are hard enough to get in and out of.

Certainly. The cage kit itself w/ sleeves is $1385 plus S&H. The door bar mounting stubs are positioned far enough back from the shoulders' of the occupants as not to interfere with the shoulder/arm of either. The cap sleeves that are included in our kit will cover the stubs nicely when the door bars are removed by giving them a nice appearance while still protecting the occupants' body.
Midwayman-
The special is for the 6 point only as NHRA requires at least a 5 point to be legal.

You can see the upper bar of the main hoop in the rear view mirror, but it is not in the plane of view out the rear window. :)

Is it possible to get some pictures of the install completed, including the storage area? The black interior makes it hard to see, would an additional light source other than the camera flash help?
Thanks
Is this 6 pt full roll cage w/ removable door swings acceptable and passable by NHRA's Tech for say a C5 going faster than 9.99 or quicker???
And also can a 5 pt harness attach to this cage easily?
Thanks
I'll dig around and try to find the file folder containg the rest of the install photos and post them.
LOOKN-
As stated by the 2003 NHRA rulebook...
A full roll cage is required in any vehicle running 9.99 seconds or quicker, and any vehicle running 135 mph or faster (regardless of e.t.). The roll cage must be constructed of minimum 1 5/8 o.d.x .118 mild steel tubing, or 1 5/8 x .083 chrome moly tubing...
A 5-point cage is acceptable for 10.00 flat and slower, but a full 6-point cage is required anything faster than that. Our 6-point cage package is NHRA legal of design and build as long as the rear down tubes are welded to the main hoop.

I just wanted to make sure before making a decision - will i need anything else - and will you gaurantee it will pass tech if go 9.99 or faster at any NHRA track?
I guess im a little confused and just want to make sure im 100% legal after spending money on a cage.
thanks again
To clarify for you...
Red C5 is correct, a full vehicle cage is required for a 9-sec. or quicker vehicle and that vehicle must have at least a 6-point roll bar as our unit is, w/ at least 6 point anchoring, in that cage. Those rules are for use for those that compete w/in the NHRA classes and regular competition. Do you plan on this being a race-only vehicle? If so, you may want to pursue a complete vehicle cage w/ the specs above.
If your vehicle is for daily driving use w/ the occasional drag strip visit, a 6-point roll cage that's tied into the frame will suffice to allow you to run down the track w/out the officials tossing you out for no roll bar. Most tracks do this to protect themselves from lawsuit liability in case of an accident and to keep their insurance companies happy.

I would stop calling your roll bar a cage you are confusing everyone. Do you guy's have any experience getting a NHRA certification on a cage. From what I have seen in this post I doubt it. Please due some homework before you respond to the questions. Your 6-point roll bar is only good till 10.00 in a coupe or FRC 10.99 in a convert. This is as of today. However in 2004 things are going to change you should let everyone know this.

Your assumptions of our inexperience and lack of "homework" in this area is certainly incorrect and inaccurate...
We agree w/ you in that the verbage should change and that is why we rose to a point of clarification and explained the topic further.
As we already stated above, the addition of this safety device is suited to allow the owner of a high powered Corvette to run at his/her local track w/ out getting thrown out for a total lack of a bar of any type, while still improving the vehicle to a new level of safety that it didn't have before. As also stated before, if someone has a vehicle that is destined to be race-only w/in the NHRA circuit, then we would certainly recommend a full roll cage w/ SFI certification.
Here is a link to NHRA that explaines this further for those that wish to see the diagram themselves. Thank you for the input and have a nice day. :)
