Default LS6 Cam

Since this is one of the most popular & stealthy mods I opted for the same. I purchased the LS6 '02 Cam & got the green springs as well. I am going to install the same on my '99 C5. I need some advice here, has anyone else done this mod with only the above parts i.e only the cam & springs ? I know the LS6 valves are good for the lighter weight & higher revs but I intend to limit my max rpm to 6100 ( I had seen a Dyno Graph by a member who done this mod and from what i could see the Hp dropped after 6k rpm - very similar to the ZO6 power band ). Should that keep me in the safe range ? if not , will the comp cams valvetrain upgrade kit with the 96918 springs, retainers, lifters & pushrods suffice ?

For 6100rpms, you'll be fine with those springs. For 6500rpms, you might want to go with 918's. I installed *just* the ls6 springs and cam in my girlfriends car and it runs flawlessly to 6100. Stock everything else.

The car I put it in (Automatic tranny, stock) went from 298rwhp to 321rwhp.

We didnt touch the computer, but if you want the most from it, bumping up the rev limiter a little and changing timing and fuel a little will get the best use of the cam. The cam usually wants to keep making its power up a little higher than the stock cam, so the extra rpms really come into play.

I intent to install the same on an A4 with the Predator tuning. I will also set the Rev limit at 6100 with the shift points set at 6000. I will dyno the car as well after my mods. I will post the results.

I got mine from Ebay for around $ 165 . The springs cost around $ 132. I had to purchase them separately so that is why the price went up . Shop around ebay & wait till someone posts both together. That would be my recommendation. $ 200 - $ 220 should be a fair price ( New of course ).

Never, never buy used valve springs. And please, don't ask me why I know this...it's still to painful to discuss... :cry :banghead:

I got my LS6 cam and springs out of a Z06 (I think with 2400 miles) used for around $150. Tons of Z06 owners pull their parts off for bigger cams and aftermarket springs all the time, so the used stuff isnt too hard to find.

As for used springs, I'd never put used aftermarket performance springs on a car, but low mile used OEM LS6 springs with an OEM LS6 cam are fine to me.

If you check the "For Sale " section , they come up for sale fairly regularly. I bought a brand new one for $135. If you don't want to wait, try posting WTB Z06 cam. I'm sure there are a lot of these cams laying around, but people just haven't bothered to put them up for sale. You could also check with some of the tuners. Some people have upgrades done and just leave the old parts at the shop where the work was done.

I switched to the '03 LS6 Cam to use with my Magnason Blower while retaining STOCK heads/valves. When I replaced cam also did valve springs, titanium retainers, Manley hardend push rod and dual roller timing chain. Beings the patient was open figured might as well do it all with new stuff.

Be aware the correct push rods, when switching to LS6 CAM and keeping LS1 heads, should be .050 longer (7.450 instead of 7.400). However, you can use your shorter LS1 push rod.

I purchased the (ALL NEW) CAM, push rods, retainers, timing chain and ALLl gaskets as a KIT for about $575. (not from forum vendor)

Can't give you HP increase for CAM but with Blower, FLP Headers, Vortex & CAM I'm at 431 RWHP & 406 RWTQ :) :)

Not trying too be funny, but Why would you change cams and then shift at the sam Rpm as your old cam ? Why would you even go through all that trouble too change the cam , and put in a Ls6 cam ? After all the talk and fuss about hundreds of cams and springs, you choose a stock cam upgrade ? I'm new here, please don't take this response out of context buddy, but I don't need 2 million posts too ask a question do I ? My opinion, only mine, just trying too assist you , through that particular camshaft idea in the river, get a NEW Hammer cam ( since you are looking for stealth ) , and New 918 springs.... I Swear you will be happier with a 12.0 more so than a 12.8 !!!!!! Sorry cuz, didnt mean too be so hard on you !!!!!!I'm just trying too help !!!

Scoggin Dickey Parts Center sells them for around $200. I Just happened to find a good deal on the forum. There are better cams but for new, you will pay around $400.

I got a lot feedback with regards to the cam upgrade here & in person. I might bypass the whole LS6 Cam/Springs idea & go for a custom cam if the deal is good enough. Q8Y are you interested ? Email me if so.
