Coil Over Shocks-Questions
Are Coil Overs just for racing or can they be used on the street?
What are the advantages of Coil Overs ? How much of a disadvantage would they be if the car will be driven on the street ?

You remove your leafsprings completely :yesnod:
They can be used on the street as well, it's not a racing only setup :yesnod:
Advantages ?
1. Minimal transfer from side to side - independent in each corner (almost)
2. Easy to set ride height to whatever you want
3. Easy and cheap to change springrates if you want to have one setup for the street and one for the track.
Disadvantages?
The only one discussed is that the mounting points is not made to carry the load of a coilovers. I've never heard of anyone having problems - DRM among others uses them regulary on street/race cars.
Many racers, David Farmer among others on this forum uses leafsprings with success, I'm using coilovers with sucess so there is different opinions about what to use. Sometimes the regulations in a racing series you want to run do not allow the change to coilovers. If you choose to go the coilover track take a look at LG Motorsports setup which is the best one you can get. Their setup eliminates all flexing bushings and replaces them with uniballs/heim-joints. I'm using a similar setup with custom made mounting hardware and Ohlins 46HRC coilovers.

I was curious whether or not ,with Coil Overs you would eliminate the leaf springs.
If the majority of driving is on the street (or highway) are Coil Overs still feasable?

-Moves your center of gravity upwards.
-Adds weight (I think. Anyone have a weight comparison handy?)

I didn't have the option of buying a complete kit, since I already had the shocks. Still, I compared the different coil over designs. I think LGs kit offers most for the money. Important differences with other kits:
- The shocks are upside down (minimizes unsprung weight)
- The rubber mounts are replaced with metal brackets and heim joints
The price for the complete kit is less than a set of T1 springs and a set of shocks.
With coil-overs, you can just choose your springs, they are really cheap. If one set is too hard for your everyday driving, just get softer springs.
(I would have liked to buy just the brackets LG uses, but he didn't want to sell them separately. Now I have to get them fabricated)
