on my vette when I press the open button on the dash? It always has in the past. I had disconnected my battery recently and had to retrain my FOB's, but why would that effect my trunk release button  Am I being an idiot or what
I forgot, if I press the trunk release button on my FOB, the trunk opens. Hummm
What does that mean? The trunk on my 2000 vert opens with the trans in first gear parking brake off using the button on the dash. Is it not supposed to open unless parking brake is set? :yesnod:

In the '99 model at least, when the car is off (with or without the key in the ignition) and in or out of gear...the button should pop the trunk. If the key is only switched to ACC but engine still off the button should pop the trunk. Both of these scenarios should work with or without the parking brake set.
However, if the key is switched to the ON position or the engine is running (in or out of gear) the button should be disabled. Raising your parking brake during these conditions should allow the button to pop the trunk lid. Sorta prevents you from inadvertantly popping the trunk while driving or sitting and idling. I'm not positive but there may be other conditions that affect the operation of the trunk button.
I'm glad mine works like this since more than once I've hit the wrong button to turn on my fog lights. Kept me from having to pull over and shut the trunk.
98BlackMagic...for what it's worth I have never had any issues with my trunk button or my key FOB being affected by a battery disconnect or change out. Wish I could help you more but these were just my experiences with '99 FRCs. Possibly there's different programming issues at work here in the BCM.
I would definitely check for a fuse. I have to dig my finger under the trunk everytime I want to open it b/c the spring is weak. Can you even hear the spring trying to push it open?

I would think that the problem is not a fuse because he says the trunk opens when he uses the key fob. If the trunk opens with the key fob it probably is not a mechanical problem with the trunk release hardware. Hmmmm! :banghead:
I tried to find a recent post about this but to no avail.
Had to do with a fuse blowing and the fog lights, trunk, and a few other things not working. Let us all know what you find.
Just to make sure............. find a friend with a C5 and swap the dash switch panel. Could be either a bad switch or maybe the wire harness came undone. Its easy to pop the panel off and test it.
