...that's what it says every time I start up my '99 vert since I had an alarm & stereo put in over the weekend. I had the locking-plate on the column taken out a long time ago because of the dreaded problem of lock-out and the associating TSB but NEVER had this error message pop up.
What is causing this now and how do I get rid of it??? Thanks in advance :seeya
Can try pulling then replacing the #25 fuse in the glove box to reset. This often eliminates the error for folks. From your description, you should have any actual issues with the column locking due to the removal of the lock, so this should reset the message for you.
The message is actually very common, and those who have not installed a bypass or had the locking mechanism removed will have their column locked sooner or later. Often, even immediately after putting on a bypass the message pops up and removing/replacing the #25 fuse fixes it. It did it on mine when doing the CLB, and doing the fuse made it go away, and it has not returned since (nearly a year now).
