Default Column lock question

I know this has probably been answered but I couldn't get the search function to work. It just kept telling me it had no results. Anyway, when (if ever) did they fix the column lock problem? I have a 2002 Z06 (built august 8 2001) and I've never had the problem. But a few weeks ago while I was away from home my brother was moving the car in the driveway (at my request) and he said a message came up saying "service column lock" or something to that effect. And he said it wouldn't let him turn the wheel. I told him to shake the wheel back and forth hard and see if it helped. He said it did and he drove it fine. It hasn't happened again since. Is this the same column lock problem that has caused so much frustration? If it is, what's the fix? Sorry to be asking an old old question. I just didn't every pay much attention before because it hadn't affected me. Thanks

Scott

I believe 2002+ A4s are not affected, but the MN6s still are. So, if you have a Z06 (which has the MN6), yes you could still be hit by this.

Yep, it is going to be a problem for you soon or in the future. You can either get the GM fix, all they do is put a new part in that can still go bad, or get the column lock bypass kit.

I recommend the CLB even if you get the GM fix. There have been others that had the fix, and it still locked up. That fix, is not a fix IMHO.

Here's another recent thread regarding the faulty system...
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=681469

When using the search function be sure to check under "archived topics"
Go to the search page and under subject enter "column lock", tab over to the next box and change "recent topics" to "archived topics" using the drop-down arrow or type an "a". Hope that helps.
