I recently put a Donaldson Blackwing airfilter on my 98 vette Coupe. A week later, the check engine light came on with the code p1416hc. I read the recent article about the air system bank. My questions are 1. Is this somekind of result from my changing the air filter and 2. Is this something that can be fixed easily or does it require some part to be bought.
:lurk: I had the same code pop up the other day. I just cleared it and kept on driving and it hasn't come back. I think I had the same one this summer and called the chev dealer. They told me it was for a part of the EGR system and wouldn't cause any problems so just clear the code. I may be wrong... does anyone know what it is for sure?
The AIR pump runs on startup and the PCM monitors the O2 sensors for voltage changes that indicate the system is functioning. When you get a P1415 or P1416 code it indicates that one bank or the other is not working.
A P1416 code refers to the right bank. The most common cause is a stuck check valve. On the drivers side the check valve is easy to see and get to but the check valve on the right is located behind the intake manifold.
To replace the right side check valve requires the removal of the intake manifold. It's a pretty straightforward job but will probably take a couple of hours if you have not done it before. Instructions for doing an R&R of the intake manifold by forum member jimx: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=5
The article refers to swaping a LS1 intake for a LS6 intake so you can ignore the coolant pipe stuff
I would like to thank everyone that took the time and effort to help me with my problem with my vette. Thanks to your info, I will not have any problems fixing it. thanks alot. If anyone gets a ticket speeding in Washington DC, let me know. I will use my Police powers to work it out. :smash:
Thanks
