Default '99 vs. 2K

I'm researching Vettes. Pretty much settled on the '99 or 2000 model year. Can someone tell me why I'd be better off with one - or - the other ? Any engineering / mechanical / electrical advantages to one over the other ? Are there "reliability" issues ? Any "mod" issues (e.g. more quality mod's available for one versus the other )? Frequency of Repair history ?
Any specific defects associated with either model year that I should watch for ?
This will be my first Vette and I want to make the right decision.
Thanks for your help.

I don't believe there is much difference between the 2 yrs. Each yr the general fixes problems from the previous year. Have had no problems with my 99 other than column lock. Good luck in your search :seeya

The 2000 has a different fuel delivery system to the engine. The 99 has a recycle line back to the tank and the 2000 does not have this line. Also,I think that the active handeling system was not available in all models in 99, but were available in 2000. Also if you're looking for a car with the Z51 suspension, that system was upgraded for 2000 (the shocks, bars and springs are different). There are probably more differences, but these are the ones I remember.

Thanks very much for the information. I'm getting some good stuff here - particularly the comments pertaining to the fuel system and suspension. Since I ran into an oil consumption problem on my impeccably maintained '96 Eldorado, I've become Extremely cautious about picking up a used - or new - GM high-performance product.
Thanks again for the feedback.

I don't have a fuel recycle line on my '99. I think that was on the '97 & '98's. My car has active handling and Z51. I can't comment as to whether the Z51 is different on the 2000. I don't know.

The 97 and 98 had the return line for the fuel system. The 99 and up doesn't use the return line.

How about this one! The 99 has key entry on both doors the 2K driver side only.

Sorry for the incorrect info about the fuel return line. I thought the change was at the start of the 2000 model year run, but I stand corrected. Thanks for the correct info. :D

The 99's have the passive door locks, 2000's do not.

Most obvious difference is that the 99's came stock with the wagon wheels which IMHO are hideous. 2k and up have the much better looking 5 spokes. Of course this is easily remedied with a few $$$. Same HP, same exhaust tips.

No problems with my 99. I have active handling (same as 2k, upgraded in 2k1), only other major change was the passive entry deleted in 2k, but I never use it.

Buy the one you like best. Consider the mileage, color and options. In 99 and 2k the option packages weren't like they are today. You could order individual options rather than whole groups of options. Be sure to check the option codes on the inside of the glove box.
