I recommend doing a search on this forum and the Z06 forum. I recently went through the same exact process. You will find numerous Polls and opinions on this topic.
There are many options out there, but the B&M and Hurst tend to be at the top of the list. I decided to go with the Hurst Billet Plus Shifter. Excellent quality! I'm really happy with mine. No noise.
Short shifters sometimes tend to produce a little more noise over the stock shifter. You can eliminate noise with a good ****, i.e., MGW or MoMo billet steel, because the added weight absorbs the vibration (Do not use the stock ****!).
There are also a few easy tricks you can apply, such as using a 1.5" and 2" rubber PVC cap with a 5/8" hold drilled in the center that you slide down the shaft of the shifter that also elminates vibration and noise. I also recommend getting the Ken King or MoMo short shifter leather boot.
Good luck with your choice. Either one is much better than stock and you will really like the way if shifts - really exact and positive feel - the way a Corvette should shift.
I tired the breathless for a few hours in many of the different angles available and could not get comfortable with it. It also seems to be a little taller then the ripper.
Would recommend the Hurst because of adjustability. Both the Hurst and Ripper are short on throws, precise and quiet. Hmm, being quiet is not guaranteed as it depends alot on the installation and **** used. I have had both in my cars and like both shifters, but would go with the Hurst imo.
OK Guys thank you all for all the help. I have made up my mind I am going with the Ripper. Where can I find Ken King Boot? Searched everywhere no luck :smash:
You may also want to look at the Kirban. I have one in my 03 Vette and love it. Much more positive feel than the Ripper (in my opinion).
I'm in Houston so if you'd like to meet somewhere this weekend (MTI maybe), I'd be more than happy to let you row the gears a little and see what you think.
I put a Ripper in my Z06, and the shifting is great! The only drawback is the new shifter makes alot of noise over the stock shifter.
I checked back with West Coast Corvettes, and was told the design is different than stock and thats why the noise is there. It sounds more like a rattle when you stomp on the gas. As far as I am concerned, I don't like the noise and am thinking of removing it.
Check them out BEFORE you buy so you know what you are getting into.
