Default rev limit

I have bounced of the rev limiter a few times,, I have read this can cause broken spring and bent valves,,why,, I have thought the limit was to protect,, not hurt....The msd system I have in the street rod cuts cylinders ,,never had a problem there either...I dont do te overrev on purpose,,just trying out different shift procedures,,,the 98 I have doesnt seem to shift fast enough close to red line by shifting manually,,,what is the best way,,leave it in drive and just let the computer do the work....

You're right - that's what the rev limiter is there for, to protect it. Why have a rev limiter if it's set at a point that the engine can still be damaged. Now, you can dame the engine by down-shifting at too high a speed and too low a gear, like going into 2nd at 130.

You may want to look into a shift kit or tuning for firmer shift points to get the kind of response you're looking for.

:iagree: Transgo Shift Kit + New Shift Points @ 6000 rpm + More Shift pressure about +5% should be just right.

The latter you can do with LS1 Edit . Former you will have to buy @ $109.99
