LS6 vs. LS1

Thanks
Neal
The LS6 block allows more oil flow, hence cooler temperatures under load. The contorversy begins when a few LS1's noticed that with their trannies out, they could see LS6 inprinted on their blocks. Well, one of my friends knows the camaro brand manager for GM, and he says that in 2001 when they knew the FBody was dying, they threw some LS6 blocks into the assembly line.
He also stated, in 2002, there was more than just a handfull thrown in. Up to 40% of the 2002 FBodys have/had LS6 blocks.
Honestly, there is no change in performance, just the pride factor of being able to say "I have a Z06 block"

Beginning in late 2001 production all LS1 named engines in the C5 began using the LS6 block.
The 2001 LS1+ shares the following components:
Intake Manifold
Exhaust Manifolds
Block (late 2001)
MAF
Clutch (in 01 only as 02 LS6 clutch is unique)
Crank
Rods
Thats pretty much it. Major differences are Cam, and Heads.
Oh, and the LS6 uses and lighter harmonic damper, and is fired on propane at the factory and balanced better due to higher RPM than LS1. LS1 is cold spun only to insure oiling, etc.
Stick LS6 Heads, Cam, Injectors, and PCM Tuning on a late 2001+ LS1, and you have an LS6.
