I just recently had TPIS headers installed, deleted the cats, installed offrode pipes, and a magnaflow xpipe.
Went to the track to test it out and in the high rpms 4k to 5.5k. It was choking bad. You could feel it wanted to start pulling hard but would choke almost like it was hitting the rev limiter but it wasnt. Mine is set at 6.5K.
I ran three times before i threw in the towel. I was running 5 mph slower and 3.5 tenths slower. Then it was perfect weather. Very disappointed. Thought maybe it just needed to adjust. But it still is doing it.
Anybody have any suggestions as what could be the problem.
Re: Anyone have problems after header install? (BayouVette)
something for sure not right...i got just the opposite from my 01-A4 when i put on headers...possibably tuning or TQ management on shift points (?)...there are lots of smart folks on this forum they will help you figure this out.
Re: Anyone have problems after header install? (BayouVette)
A couple of things to check for. I don't know if you had the LS1Edit before or after the header install. If you delete the cats you need either O2 sims or LS1Edit to 'tune them out". Otherwise the PCM will change the fuel/air ratio to try to compensate for what it thinks is a malfunctioning cat. You WILL get a code DTC PO0420(System Low Efficiecny Bank 1) and/or DTC PO0430(System Low Efficiecny Bank 2). Also, I'm wondering if you are getting misfire sensing. Also, if you havn't retuned after the install the exhaust/cam characterists have changed and I'm sure your fuel/air is different. Also check all the fittings, hoses, AIR, 02 sensor connections, gaskets are in correctly. Did you pull your plugs during the install? Check the plugs and wires. Check the connections on the coil packs to make sure there are perfect connections(no intermittents). Lastly, are you getting any ping? You may not be hearing it now because those exhausts are probably pretty loud and could be drowning it out. If that is the case you may be getting KR which the PCM provides for to keep the motor from blowing itself up.
I don't know whether I am restating the obvious here, but that is where I would start to look. Also, why don't you give your tuner a call? He knows the car and might provide valuable input. Good luck. :flag
Re: Anyone have problems after header install? (ArKay99)
Thanks guys, I did get some good info from the scan and tune section. My tuner did remove the codes for the rear 02's and the cat check. I am getting the P0160 and P1040 codes which are for the rear 02's. Not sure why. I will contact my tuner today. I tend to believe they may be something loose or maybe some leaks. Will get the car on lift and check that this weekend. I did change the plug wires, but kept the stock plugs.
Re: Anyone have problems after header install? (BayouVette)
Sounds like old spark plugs. Mine did the same thing. When I pulled the plugs, they looked like hypodermic needles.:) Once they were repalced, we re-tuned it and it ran great.
Re: Anyone have problems after header install? (BayouVette)
How long have you been driving your car since the install? Sometimes it takes awhile for the computer to adjust to the airflow. All vette's will have a different reaction to headers. I have the LGM headers on a 03 coupe and never had any problems. You might be running to rich. lol, cars are great, if there is a problem it seems it could be 3 or 5 different issues. Good luck
Correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to recall reading about some people accidentally switching the right and left O2 sensors when installing headers. This has some interesting, i.e. not beneficial, effects on your engines behavior.
