When I start the car, the fan belt squeeks but then subsides once im moving.....Can someone tell me what this is and the remedy perhaps? Thanks for your help!
Check to make sure that your water pump is not leaking. My belts were squeeking, as you describe, and was apparently the result of getting anti freeze on them. The dealer said that they could try cleaning the belts, but could not guarantee that the squeeking would stop. They told me that the only sure fire fix was to replace the belts. Now, I do not know if this is the only fix for this problem. You may want to try cleaning the belt first; however, I do know that once the belts were replaced, the squeeking stopped...
Are you sure the squeaking is from the drive belt? My 1999 C5 coupe had a squeak at idle and replacment of the idler pulley by the dealer according to a TSB for 1997 - 1999 C5's eliminated the squeak.
The C5 does not have a "fan belt." Both the large serpentine accessory belt and the smaller belt that runs the AC have been known to sqeek. There have been fault belt tensioners too. :yesnod: :)
Re: Help!...Squeeking fan belt?? (1999 White C5 Coupe)
hmmm...the pulley itself you say possibly? Yea I guess it could be that instead of the belt....Its definately coming from that area....I have a 97 so you may be right about that......any idea if this is the case on the cost to fix? thanks guys for your help!
Now, let's see??? I've replaced the idler pulley, the tensioner pulley, the water pump and have had the (all) belts changed four (4) times. Every time my squeek changes a little bit, but it is F'ING STILL THERE...
Maybe now I should replace the whole GD engine. What does a crate LS1 run these days anyway?
