Default Tire pressure sensor

I'm replacing my wagon wheels with Z06 wheels / tires. I did a little bit of searching, and this is what i found:
1- tire sensors have a 5-8 year life span (actually mileage sensitive, b/c they shut down when car is not running). My car is a 99 with 47K miles
2- the sensors are sealed units

I'm wondering if I should
a- skip the sensor (i don't want to do that since I won't have runflats either)
b- try to open the sensors and replace the battery... i'm feeling adventurous
c- put the sensors in and take my chances
d- buy new sensors (i don't want to do this either)

What do you guys think? I've seen posts about people asking for dead sensors to repair, but haven't seen any instructions...

Sorry I don't have an answer for you - actually I am wondering the same?

Do your sensors still work? What symptoms do they show that have you concerned?

I have a 1998 and am replacing my wheels with newer ones and Z06 tires as well

My sensors are working fine... I'm worried that I'll put them in the new set, and shortly after they'll stop working. Then I have to pay for an additional dismount / remount.
I did an archive search and saw that the life expectancy is 5-8 years, depending on mileage. I'm coming up on 5 years on mine, which is why I started thinking about it. My Z06 wheels / tires will be here tomorrow, and I gotta decide whether I should mount them with / without the sensors...

Thanks

Electricaly, they should work fine but I'm not sure if the 97 - 00 tire pressure sensors will mechanically fit in the Z06 wheels.
The 97 - 00 sensors were a lot larger than the newer models.
Maybe somebody in the know will chime in here.

Roger

Thank you Roger. I just found out on z06vette.com that the early style sensors won't fit the Z06 wheels, so I guess I'll be going without :(

Just because they don't fit the wheels does NOT mean you have to go without them :nono:

You can mount them inside the wheel with epoxy and bands (see the pic) and continue to use them as normal (cut the valvestem off right at the threads so the sensor will sit flush). This has been done many times by Forum members.

Considering their age though, if it were me, I'd spring the cash and buy new ones. The batteries cannot be changed nor can they be taken apart. Or you mount them and just wait till your current ones die.

Chuck 'em. I am going to upgrade to Z wheels soon & plan on removing them. I found a good alternative ( cheap too ) soloution at MID America . It is like a valve cover that changes colour when pressure changes. Just check them before going on a drive & you should be fine.

I've read that sensors can last 7-10 years. Who knows? It might go out in five or last till ten. I would use the sensors i have (replacing the o-rings), and since you're going with non-run flats it's possible to replace a sensor without having to break down the tire.
Your sensors will work on Z06 wheels if the tire changer is good and takes his time.
