help!!! strange noise after gear install
i just had 3.90s put on my car and they told me to drive the car normally for 500 miles and then change the gear oil. everything was fine for the 500 miles and i changed the gear oil today. for some reason now theres a really really loud whine it seems like coming from the gears. it's very very loud when i'm barely on the throttle but when i floor it or go to half throttle the whine goes down in volume almost to wear you cant hear it :confused: is this normal after a gear oil change or should i be really worried about this. if anyone knows whats going on then your help is much appreciated :cheers:

i can't remember the name of it, it was ams oil i think... started with an a, ECS gave it to me to use so it must have been the right oil. and yes it made absolutely no noise until after the oil change

does anyone know what could be wrong :confused: i don't understand why this would happen after changing the gear oil.. has anyone had this problem? any ideas of what it could be?

weird , i dont see how oil could make a noise?? maybe u disnt put enought in?? Mine made some noise whne i first got it, then it went away, ha they never told me to change th eoil after 500 miles?? mine is still the same oil from when the car got the gear change.

Did you put the additive in also, I'm pretty sure that along with the gear oil theres also another additive.

ECS will take care of it so call them.......It's like an art setting up these gears and they can become noisey if the adjustment is a bit off, even over time. Chris is a good guy and should correct the issue.....

i'm going to call chris at ECS but i doubt he's at work today because of thanksgiving. they didn't tell me about the limited slip additive :confused:

the limited slip additive keps the clutches in the rear from chattering/sticking.what fluid did you put back in?some fluids already have the additive in it,but most don't.if you leave the additive out,the rear will make all kinds of noise,especially when turning.

Some of the aftermarket gear oil has the additive in it. The additive would really help for turning more. If you are hearing a whine just while driving straight then Chris will most likely need to reset the gears. Or you can try getting the gm gear fluid and additive and try that first.... Either way Chris will tell you best....

it's time to start looking elsewhere (other than the fluid).
When you changed the fluid... did you jack-up the car... do it on a lift... ramps?
Did something get slightly displaced; maybe a half-shaft that wasn't fully seated in the first place?

Something is wrong... The Oil chris gives to customers Amsoil... you shouldnt need the additive with it. Did you put in the entire two bottles???
Either way give Chris a call at the shop tomorrow... he'll be there all day. If the gearset were set wrong they would have started singing before this. I never heard of a rear singing after a fluid change. Unless there isnt enough fluid in it. :confused:
Either way we'll get it straightend out....
