I'm interested in this procedure. Would like to hear from anyone who has done it. Worthwhile or not? 99FRC 44,000 miles. Thanks for any input, [/img] java script error - notify a mod
Find secluded road. Nail it a few times and run it throught the gears repeatedly. Seems to decarbon the plumbing pretty well. :jester
In all seriousness, does this work? I know hard driving keeps carbon from building up, but if there is carbon already there, will hard driving remove it?
I am going to be getting a 97-99 C5 in about 2 to 5 yrs and worry about getting one which may have carbon buildup if the owner didn't drive it hard or did lots of short trips. I drive my cars hard, and when I had my 98 LS1 Formula I don't think it had any carbon buildup, but I only owned it for 2.5yrs, and 27k though. But in that time I made 250 1/4 mile runs, plus TONS of full throttle passes on the street.
I would prefer to not have to put a lot of harsh chemicals through the fuel system (or through the throttle body for that matter) if it's not needed.

I was being a bit flippant, but if a buildup is not bad, running it up under load may burn off light carbon deposits. I'm not really sure a de-carbonization treatment would hurt anything, especially if the buildup is actually causing poor performance. Good luck!
BG44K, I swear by it. Best $20 you will ever spend.
Funny you happen to be at 44k miles too!
I suggest adding it at fill up at some point when you know you will be using a whole tank of gas within a day or two.
Has anyone ever de-sludged one and then pulled the heads to see what it did.
I might do this and post it.
My car only has 12200 miles on it .
I believe that most of the carbon is from the PCV and also the detnonation in # 7 might be from all this oil getting in.
