My Keyless entry has been a problem since I purchased my 1999 in 2001. I had to reprogram the handheld unit, if I did not open the doors or trunk within 2 days. Just recently it, was only working for hours and now minutes. Is it the tranmitter or the handheld remote? Any help you guys could offer would help.
Battery is a little over one year old. I had one of those great GM batteries, where the acid leaked out and eat a hole through my vacuum lines on A/C vent dampers. The DIC typically read about 14.1
I think he is refering to the battery in the remote. a fresh battery works woneders, where as a weak one seems to last forever, but not performing well
Re: Keyless entry is no longer working (harleyvette)
it is not the remotes, it is a problem with the transmiter on the car loosing sync with the remotes. You constantly have to reprogram them so they are on the same sync.
If it was weak battery it would not work at all or just sporadic and not simply magically work when you do a resync.
It is a problem GM is ignoring. IT is not the remotes
Re: Keyless entry is no longer working (knowledgefreak)
I think it is the remotes. If I drop my remote I need to reprogram it and often I need to give it a few smacks to get it to work. The contacts in the remotes (at least the early remotes) are sketchy at best. They are flimsy and easily tweaked. Take it/them apart and see if you can see where the problem may lie. On mine, the positive and negative contacts were touching.
It is the reciever. I bet it was below 50 degrees when it stopped working. My froze up also and the tire pressure gages did not work. There is a service bullentine for this problem.
Re: Keyless entry is no longer working (harleyvette)
Covered under warrenty.. ordered one today from dealer.. I have two ,one has been used very little, the other I cary all the time.. The one I carry is the DEAD one .. new battery and still will only stay programed HOURS.. Check dealer....
I scrapped the GM unit...never could keep it working properly...kept loosing sync with the reciever. I bought a Clifford system...does everything right...pops the rear hatch and the gas flap from the remote. Also pages me up the 1/4 mile if any forced entries are attempted.....the Clifford is what GM should have supplied instead of the junk remote system that in the C5...many, many Forum members have this problem and yet GM just keeps putting that crappy system in each new model. :U :U :U :U :U :U :U :U :U :U :U
I have the same issue. The receiver should not be bad as I did two things to test. 1). The tire pressure sensors work;. 2). Went to GM and borrowed a new FOB and it programmed, then I was able to program my unit which gm tested as good. This was great until it lost sync AGAIN.
What is the Clifford System referred in the post? Any URL, etc.

Hi HuffyRed, You state that it is covered under warranty.
I went to my dealer and they said it was not covered!
Do you have any proof of this that I could show my dealer?
