I had my car tuned by LAPD yesterday and had quite a revalation. The "stock" program in my PCM was all FUBAR. A lot of weird values were present in the MAF and other PCM tables. The tuner ended up having to compare values to the current 2003 "stock" program and change a number of them to achieve a true baseline. Since I have never driven another stock C5, the performance degradation was never apparant to me. I've also never had the car tuned before so the corrupt PCM program had to have been installed on the production line.
After sorting it all out and retuning the car, I found real before/after SOTP performance gains with respect to initial throttle response and acceleration throughout the RPM band. The car just kept on pulling strong up to 140 MPH (where we ran out of road). While It's impossible to say how much of this gain was due to getting rid of the "frankenstein" PCM program versus the retuning effort, IMO the money was well spent in discovering the corrupt PCM program and setting the new PCM values to achieve optimal performance regardless of before/after dyno numbers. Since I already have a baseline dyno run I may take it back to R&D Dyno to get "after" dyno results
LAPD's tuner also eliminated the CAGS via programming, reseting the PCM so CAGS is activated at 350 MPH!
Several of us got together and bought the LS1Edit program through a local shop, and while my '99 tuned really well and quickly, one of the others (03Ragtop) had quite a time with his '03 programming - like it was trying to "fight" the LS1Edit tuning. Much more radical changes had to be made to the computer on his car to make a difference in the performance when compared to mine. I wonder what really changed inside the computer between the years?
Re: LAPD LS1Edit Tuning - A Revalation (BSiegPaint)
Just be careful not to try to shift into second when you hit 350mph  Really odd about the bogus program from the factory.
we set the speed limiter to 349 MPH

Sounds similar to my experience, which is what led the tuner to review the values set in the various tables. For example in the MAF table the max. value should be around 450 grams/sec (if I remember correctly). In my "stock" program the max. value was set at 428 grams/sec. from what I understand you end up with the ignition and fuel algorithms at cross purposes which limits overall engine performance. I wonder how many other '03's are out there with a "frankenstein" PCM program.
Glad it worked out for you.My car is really running better than ever.Money well spent as my gas mileage improved also.My car is much more fun to drive since I had LAPD tune my car.Let us know the results of the dyno test.I am really curious.Have fun! :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy

We are very happy to hear that you are satisfied with the way your car runs.
Most stock PCM programs from the factory have the same problem you experienced, but most C5/Z06 owners are used to the way it runs and they can't really tell that they had a programming issue until their car is LAPD tuned.
Where can you purchase LS1-edit? How much does the program cost? Just curious, the tuning is probably WAYYY above my head, but I wouldn't mind looking into it in the future.
IMO using LS1edit for tuning is NOT a DIY for amateurs. You can download the LS1edit users guide from carputing's site to get a flavor for what you'd be getting into.
