I have a year 2000 c5 coupe. Had it about 3 mo. I have learned much from this forum. This is only the second time I wrote in. My problem is I just just found the Flange on the Big intermediate pipe (drivers side) has come unwelded from the pipe. This is right where the muffler pipe bolts to this long intermediate pipe. This long intermediate pipe is one BIG H pipe with the Converters and everthing. Can this flange be rewelded. This car has 31,000 miles. No rust or dirt anywhere. Looks like new. Are these pipes stainless? Any ideas would be A great help. This pipe looks real expensive
Thanks for the help
Welcome to the forum. Yes the pipes are stainless and the flange can be welded. But its already broke its a great opportunity for mods, a nice x-pipe and exhaust :D
I thought about the x pipe and exhuast but I don't know much about thie topic. I put in a colum lock and a KN air filter and a Z air top. All real easy stuff. But the exhaust pipes sound more involved. Point me in the direction for more information. What do you do about cat converters and o2 sensers.Do we still use them.
Is the break on the cat or the h-pipe? If it is the h-pipe, then you can replace it with an xpipe. Corsa makes one the fits well. It's about $275. maybe 3 extra hp. But If you get a new catback you WILL see about 10hp gain total, not 20, not 30. I know, I did it, and that's what I got. But 10hp is nice. Sounds good too.
The same thing happened with my 99 Coupe. The dealer said it was covered under the 50000 mile emissions warranty and replaced the entire cat converter assembly. My car had @ 35K when it happened. Check it out!
Welcome to the Forum. This weld is known to break, and can be re-welded by any competent shop. :yesnod: :) BTW, I used to fish in your area: beautiful place. Have a great holiday season.
