My good buddy Jason came over Saturday and in a few hours installed the Z06 rear brake vent kit. Here are the do-it-yourself photos. Jason just bought the exterior vent screens and the ducts, not the whole "kit" as comes from, say, WCC. He made his own templates out of shelf liner paper, no less. No special tools needed other than a Dremel tool. Here goes, Hope this comes thru OK:
Before:
The exterior grille and the duct, all we needed...
Remove the wheel well liner:
Stick on the template:
Template installed. The exterior flange of the screen (NOT the hole) is about 1/2" from the edges of the panel you are working on:
Have faith, Brother. It takes trust to have someone actually CUT into the side of your beloved. The hole does not have to be exact, don't worry if it is a little rough, but cut it purposely too small, you will adjust later.
File the opening smooth to the line on your template:
Trial-fit the exterior grille:
The hole is complete:
The hole is complete. Next is the duct.
Here is the grille from the inside. You can see 2 of the screws that come -pre-mounted on the inside of the screen housing.
There are veeeeery thin lines on the outside of your wheel well housing that show where you cut it for the duct to fit thru.
Cutting the wheel well:
Here is the piece cut out. It is very rough, but you file it as well. The factory version of this is cut much bigger than Jason did it, probably to make adjusting the duct easier. Jason did it snug:
Here is the duct installed prior to re-installing the wheel well. There is just one screw holding it to the car. The male end of the vent screen piece just pressure-fits in the female end of the duct.
Another view of the duct in place, this time with the wheel well back in. The right side (which is all of these photos) is a lot tighter than the left side. You may have to do some adjusting, as we did, by enlarging the screw hole and hammering in the outside of the metal gas tank cover, to get the duct away from your tire. It is VERY close!
And the finished product:
If you are in the Dallas area, drop me a line and I'll put you in touch with Jason.

Nice Work!
I actually enjoyed doing this mod myself. The first cut was painful, but after that the rest was a piece of cake!
