Normal Operating Temperature?
2001 LS1 with the 170 degree thermostat. At 34 degrees (outdoor) the car is running at 123 degrees at 45 mph. Is the engine running too cold and is this the reason why the interior is cool with the Heat set at 90 degrees? When the car idles the temp gauge rises to 171 degrees and the heater works well.
Do I need to replace the Thermostat? :D

Sounds like the t-stat is stuck open.
yeah the stat is stuck open a stat is designed to be the lowest your car should see.. and with a 170 stat is should close at 170, and your car should never see anything colder after warm up..

:iagree: With a 178 stat my 00 LS1 runs at 178 to 183 in 32* temp. Take the stat out and inspect it. Put in a pan of hot water(may have to heat on the stove) and check for opening and closing.
