Default Shortie Headers??????

I am considering getting headers for my car. Are the shorties worth it or should I save my money for long tubes.(Keep in mind that my car is a daily driver and I don't want to void the warranty) Thanks......

Get long tubes, shorties are not much better than your stock manifolds.

i saw a ls1 engine out of a camaro at the local dealer the other day, the stock manifolds look quite streamlined and low restriction, just eyeballing them mind you...

mostly people here agree short tube headers offer little or no benefit over stock exhaust manifolds.

are you planning a whole of mods later? just fitting long tube headers and a loud exhaust will not make much power over stock systems, buy them for looks and for sound...

I have a set I am selling pretty cheap when I pull the blower motor, I thought I was moving to the west coast when I bought them, got about 12 rwhp with the H/C package, with the blower on I'm not sure how much diff it would have made as you are forcing everything through under boost--I choose the short fat (1 7/8") cartek headers for my stroker, they are short compared to some LT's large primaries and a simple collector, we are looking for peak hp as the 436 has an abundance of torque--the short fat design will dump exhaust quickly to the 3" exhaust system and should have a higher peak hp in the upper range, now if the new intake manifolds will finially surface we will be able to get air to the NA strokers--

Based on smog laws....I believe shorties are the only option.

Two benefits...tone and weight.

I can not concur with above that there is no HP increase (could be minor 1 to 5 HP), however, certainly LT headers bring more HP (5 to 10 perhaps).

Warranty wise, shorties are bolt on. Better/ easier argument if push to shove. Correct me if wrong but I think some welding is necessary at the cats with LTs.

Long tubes can void your warranty, but so can any modification. :) I just bought a set of shorties because I want to stay smog legal (living in CA). Looking at them, they look a lot better than the stock manifolds. I'd guess +10rwhp in a heads/cam setup over stock manifolds, or as much as longtubes IF you run cutouts after the shorties but before the cats (like I'll be doing).

Dont waste your money on shorties. For the same price, long tubes are the way to go. Warranty should not be affected. If you remove the stock manifolds and install headers, you just voided the warranty on the stock exhaust manifolds...
Buy quality long tubes, you will not have any problems or issues.

In California, all shorties are not created equal. It they don't have a CARB number they won't be legal - Shorty or Not. So, if that's the consideration, make sure you get the correct brand (one with a CARB number).

Excuse me but my BSoMeter is going off loudly. Long tube headers will not void your GMPP warranty. I installed a set of SLP headers and no warranty issues after several returns for warranty work - including O2 sensor replacement.

Verify before you post. :nono:

Then you do not have a GMPP warranty.

GMPP cannot void engine warranty for headers and exhaust installation. Corsa exhaust are GM licensed and headers do not affect engine internals. You got shafted for no legal purpose and stood there and took in the shorts when you should have contacted GMPP and your attorney.

I have a written exhibit of what specifically voids a GMPP warranty - the document comes with all GMPP warranties by the way. That's why I opted not to purchase the "other guys" warranties.

If you own a GMPP warranty and all you did was to install headers, exhaust and air filter intake your warranty is still valid.

They do if you tune for them.

I have a 2002 6 speed, My exhaust system includes B&B triflow shortie headers, magnaflow x pipe and mufflers.

I'm currently making 405RWHP and 393RWTQ

I may give up a little HP at the top, but who drives there all the time anyway

The problem that many don't think about is clutch replacement time!!
if you have long tubes, you can't drop the torque tube with out removing the headers. Ask yourself, do I really want to hassle it that much.
