Just had the "O" ring replaced. Thanks to all that gave me the revised GM part numbers. I took them to my local dealer and they ordered them for me prior to repair. I decided to go with my "country" dealer instead of the "Big Volume" a.. holes, here in Huntsville,Al. The repair went smoothly except for removing a threaded stud that goes through the tranny and diff housings. The GM manual says use Two nuts locked together to remove. Unfortunately, that did not work. A "stud" puller was located and worked well. Mileage on the car at the time of repair was 7920. The level of dope was right where it should be even though it had been leaking for a while. I was concerned about the Black residue on the side cover of the diff. I was told by the mechanic that was normal for synthetic fluid. By the way, that fluid really stinks ( smells).
I gave the repair a hi-speed test on the way home ( over 130) and no leaks.
I'm driving to dallas next week, hopefully all is well back there in the rear end.
Thanks again for all the support I received.
Re: 2003 Differential "O" Ring Relacement- Update (stnick)
Had the same repair done on Wednesday. Also had a bad stud. They had to go buy a stud to replace it, they weren't sure they'd be able to find one and reassemble my diff.
