Are there any issues with combining the rollmaster double timing chain and a ASP pulley. I read somewhere that the pulley had to be machined to clear the chain-is this an issue?
I have the spacer that comes with the chain setup for the oil pump. they move the oil pump out for additional clearance.
I've heard some say there is and others there isn't. I machined mine before I installed it just so I wouldn't have to stop in the middle of everything to get the pulley machined. It's a minor turning job. The machinist should indicate off the surface he's going to machine, the hub, rather than the grooved section OD's. Dimension "A" in the pic below was increased 0.125" to accomodate the Rollmaster oil pump spacers.
Mr jones talk to cartek about this.....I just looked at my bill from them and they also had the pulley machined for clearence to accomidate the double roller timing chain.
I have an ASP pulley and a rollmaster double roller timing chain.
the ASP pulley definitely needs clearanced like this to clear the double roller. No getting around it without giving up the warm and fuzzy feeling all will be good for a long time.
I've already done this twice and instructed several on the modification. Be careful to only take off the material you need, 3mm worth, because that step up in the hub you see is where the crank seal rides and if you go too far into it, you won't have a seating surface for the crank oil seal and you'll have a mess on your hands. I did a lot of measurement while we were doing mine and there's not a lot of hub length to play with.
I did mine originally at .200" but it was overkill. I did my buddy's at .125" and it firt perfectly. Since then, I've sent these same instructions to several members here and a few on LS1tech and all have been successful with clearancing the oil pump. :yesnod:
