Default HELP!!! Hyper Tech.P/P III..need advice

OK.. I bought a new Hyper tech and havn't used it. It has been collecting dust for about 6 months now. I MAY try it this weekend. For you guys who have used one of these are there ANY pitfalls or mistakes that can be made or is this thing fairly idiot proof? I'm a retired aircraft mechanic and figure this can't be that difficult. I would appreciate any "heads up" or possible problems that YOU may know of BEFORE I go and smoke a computer. Any recomendations on settings? I'm running a Vortec Rammer, modified Vinci Maf, High output wires and Platinum plugs. Bassani X pipe with Borla 2 tip exhaust. Throttle coolant bypass, 160 degree thermostat.
Thanks in advance for the advice!!

I have one and it's really easy. All yes or no questions. Just make sure your battery is fully charged and don't get excited when your headlights open and turn one, and your DIC displays "Reduced Engine Power". It's all normal.

I only use the thing to turn the fans on at a lower temperature and raise the rev limiter to 6500 on my MN6. Kind of an expensive fan relay but a lot more accurate than the fan switch with the unmarked rheostat.

I noticed that my fuel economy went down a bit with the engine programming also but performance did not improve. In fact, it may have gotten a little worse.

Uh Oh!! Performance went DOWN???? Fuel economy isn't an issue, just looking to get more out of the engine. I failed to mention in my earlier post that I am also running an LS6 intake with the other above mentioned mods. Now you have me wondering if I should even mess with this thing.
Thanks!

I have one and use it for the fans only. I have a 160 thermostat and it works well doing that. I tried the tire speed adjustment but that didn't work at all. It turns out that the Vette has a different set of sensors than the HyperTech was designed for and the speed was WAY off. Like I was doing 60 and my speedomoeter read 40. So I took that out. Then I tried the power tune. Instant knock. I took that out too. If you have it and you are running a 160 degree thermostat, you should use it to lower your fan temps. The engine will run at the optimum operating temperature and you will get a little more power. Just my $.02 As the above post stated, make sure your battery is FULLY charged before you do this and make sure ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is disturbed or the programming will be aborted and you will have to start over. Once the programming is started it HAS to finish or if interrupted pick up where it left off or the car won't run. I usually bring a magazine and sit in the car and read it and am very still until the programming is done. And yes, bells and whistles will go off and you will have "Reduced Engine Power" messaqes but it is all good. Not trying to scare you, just apprise you so you won't be freaked when this stuff happens. I didn't know about it and thought I messed my computer up. But after I got done flashing it, about 4 times I think, I got it to where it is today, just for fans. No such thing as cheap HP, unless you go with nitrous. :D

As said above don't freak out when you see the alarms after the first startup, let it idle a while then take it out for a 20 minute drive. Then see if you can feel a difference, I know I could. I programmed-deprogrammed my car for several trips to the dealer, never a glitch. Like the instructions say, fullly charged battery and dont move the cable. Good luck!

I have been in the process of trying to load my Hypertech program for a couple of days now with no luck. My particular problem may be unique. With the mods that you've already done there should be an advantage to using it. You'll probably just want to use the pre programed upgrade that Hypertech came up with. Your fans will come on sooner to keep it cooler, the irritating shifting too soon into overdrive will be better and if you use a higher octane gas you could take advantage of the power program which will just change your fuel and timing ratios. But then your stuck with a generic timing and fuel ratio change that a tech came up with not knowing what mods you've done. You can raise your rev limit to 6400 RPM which is cool if you get it up to those RPMs. Above someone mentioned that with the power program they developed some knocking. Your modified MAF, intake and exhaust should be more effective with an altered fuel ratio and timing curve. Once again the bad thing is being stuck with a program that's not tailored to your car. Even worse is the customer service you'll receive if you do run into a problem. Like I said I just bought one and my advice to you is to find a good tuner in your area and let them do it. If you can find a local guru that is well versed with LS1 edit you can make the adjustments that your car needs for the way you drive and for optimum performance. If you want to tinker with the car buy edit but definetly take the time to learn it.
Sorry for the long response.
Good luck

I'll be selling mine soon.
can't use performance enhancement 'cause I got a MAFT & headers
can't use the shift firmness 'cause I got Transgo shift kit
can't use fan-on setting 'cause I removed my air dams
can't use speed limiter 'cause I still bounce off it
can't use shift point adjustments 'cause I got Transgo shift kit and bounce off speed limiter
don't know if wheel diameter change worked

Installed the power programming and have no pinging problems as long as I use 93 octane. Although I can't tell any improvement at WOT, there's definitely more low rpm torque (1000 - 3000 rpm) which is what I enjoy the most for everyday driving. Hypertech's charts show around 25 lbs-ft improvement in that range. Not sure I believe them on that but I can feel a difference.

Thanks to ALL who replied!! That's it... I'm gonna sell this thing and let Vinci install my headers and cam. THEY can reprogram the car as needed.
Thanks again, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
