I'm wondering what the oil pressure should be on the C5? It's a 99 and when the car starts, the guage and computer read out says around 30. Is this correct? It also goes higher and lower when I'm driving. It gets to about 15 up and maybe 10 down from 30 psi. Thanks.
That's not out of the ballpark. I'd say the average seems to be around 27psi at idle when hot, and up to about 50 at higher RPMs. Yours might be a little lower than average, but it's well within the acceptable range.
OK. That sould decent. It's around that figure most of the time. I'll have to keep an eye on it. What is the set of bars that come up on the HUD with the oil sign on top of it? I'm assuming that it is the same thing as the oil pressure.
Plus, is there an oil change light or something on the car? Something to count down on or something? How often do you guys change your oil? I'm not doing any aggressive driving in the car.
Oil pressure questions have come up before. I've noticed my pressure is around 30 PSI at hot idle and into the 50's while shifting gears. At highway speed I'm seeing readings in the mid-40's. As for oil change intervals, I've made a point of changing the oil once a year. I don't put on more than about 3,000 miles in any given year. I do change the oil filter mid-year. It's cheap insurance against engine wear. Yes, there is an "oil life" readout on your DIC. It shows the precentage of life before you need an oil change. It's explained in the owner's manual. Hope this helps. :chevy
I've got HUD. If you hit the page button, you can switch between oil pressure, fuel level, and coolant temp. If you hold it down, you can limit or increase the amount of info displayed. Try it, it's cool.
I agree with Shortimer, Oil pressure is in the mid thirtiies just cuising - my car has about 33K on it. When gassin it, it shoots to the high fourties. Hope this helps. As long as it starts, drive it!!!
By the way, cars and engines are like women, they all have the same parts but fit together and function a little differently. No two are the same! Punch it!
